Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appears to have declined multiple offers for a nationally televised debate against California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, despite the latter offering Fox News as a broadcaster, and Sean Hannity as a moderator.
Answering to the repeated debate challenges, DeSantis told reporters in Florida that Governor Newsom needs to “stop pussyfooting around” and “throw your hat in the ring.”
DeSantis famously refused to throw his own hat in the ring until the Florida legislature rewrote the law which would now allow him to remain Governor if he loses in the Republican Primary, or general election.
For his part, Newsom challenged DeSantis to a debate on Monday, telling Sean Hannity: “I’m all in. Count on it.” The Governor of California added that he would debate DeSantis for three hours, with “one day’s notice” and “no notes.”
DeSantis, however, seems less keen. Instead of accepting the debate challenge, he shot back today: “Stop pussyfooting around. Are you going to throw your hat in the ring and challenge Joe? Are you going to get in and do it, or are you just going to sit on the sidelines and chirp… why don’t you throw your hat in the ring and then we’ll go ahead and talk about what’s happening?”
