North Korea’s Foreign Ministry has promised to “annihilate” the United States through military power by the end of the 21st century. The pledge came during a meeting to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice earlier this week.
“Should the U.S. choose to offend our Republic, we will annihilate them by using all our military power that we have gathered so far,” North Korean diplomats risibly claimed in a statement on Thursday.
“The Korean War in the last century marked the beginning of the downfall of the U.S. Now, the 21st century would see the irrevocable termination of the U.S. The rulers of the U.S. are well advised to forget, on no account, the lessons of history,” the diplomats added.
Leader Kim Jong Un’s anti-American rhetoric has increased following the election of Joe Biden. During Donald Trump’s presidency, the U.S. enforced strict sanctions on North Korea, which forced Kim Jong Un – “Rocket Man” – to negotiate the country’s own denuclearization. Trump was also the first sitting president to enter the country. Since then, North Korea has ramped up its nuclear testing program and made countless international threats.
North Korea was recently elected to the World Health Organization’s Executive Board, despite large proportions of its population being regularly left to starve.
