Elon Musk has reinstated the X (formerly Twitter) account of British activist and commentator Tommy Robinson over the weekend. Robinson was quick to voice his gratitude to Musk, with his account having quickly grown to 345,000 followers.
Robinson is the former head of the English Defence League (EDL), an outspoken opponent of radical Islam, and a vocal campaigner on behalf of the mostly white, working-class girls groomed by mostly Muslim, South Asian heritage men across Britain. Not without his controversial history of physical altercations and unpolished presentation, Robinson – whose birth name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – was deactivated from Twitter back in 2018, supposedly for “hateful conduct”.
Robinson, a pseudonym which has now become his preferred handle, posted on Sunday evening:
“I am grateful to [Elon Musk] for giving me my voice back at such an important time. I’ve been censored, attacked, slandered & imprisoned for shining a light on uncomfortable truths that our government wish to hide , the public are now aware I was telling the truth. We have lots to do.”
Several far-left organizations were quick to express their indignation about the decision, including the far-left HOPE Not Hate, which claimed Musk’s decision will allow “hateful content and misinformation to take place on his watch on X/Twitter,” adding: “We will be writing to X to make it clear that danger that their content poses.”
Katie Hopkins, a Boris Johnson supporter who was permanently suspended from the platform in 2020, has also been reinstated.
