Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) appears to be still holding on to a few grudges following his ouster as Speaker of the House last month. In an incident earlier today on Capitol Hill, the former Speaker allegedly elbowed in the back fellow Republican Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee while the latter was in the midst of giving an interview to NRP’s congressional correspondent Claudia Grisales. Burchett was among the Republicans who backed Rep. Matt Gaetz’s ‘motion to vacate‘ against McCarthy in October.
“Have NEVER seen this on Capitol Hill,” Grisales posted on X (formerly Twitter) before detailing how she witnessed McCarthy, with his security detail, walk by Burchett and shove him. The NPR reporter said the shove was hard enough to force the Tennessee Congressman to lunge forward, adding, “I thought it was a joke, it was not.” Burchett initially responded by calling McCarthy a “jerk” according to Grisales. But then a chase ensued with Burchett leaving the interview, running to catch up with the former Speaker and his security detail. ”
“Hey Kevin, why’d you walk behind me and elbow me in the back?” Burchett is reported to have shouted at McCarthy. The former Speaker responded, claiming he hadn’t in fact shoved his colleague. Pointing out that Grisales had witnessed the incident, Burchett fired back: “You got no guts, you did so, …the reporter said it right there, what kind of chicken move is that…”. After the temperature in the hallway had cooled, Burchett again told Grisales that McCarthy is a ‘jerk’ before adding, “…he’s on a downhill spiral… he just, that was pretty gutless of him. I’m disappointed in his, in him.”
Less than an hour after the incident, McCarthy again denied shoving Burchett, telling CNN’s Melanie Zanona, “I didn’t shove or elbow him, it’s a tight hallway.”

Said he's the type of the guy who as a kid would "hide behind his mama's skirt."
