House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan has warned Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that failure to produce additional documents related to an investigation into a misuse of federal funds could lead to contempt of Congress charges. In a letter on Thursday, Jordan expressed dissatisfaction with Willis’s adherence to a subpoena issued on February 2, stating her compliance thus far has been “deficient.”
Jordan’s letter outlined specific documents Willis failed to present, including communications with the Justice Department, certain intra-office correspondences related to the receipt of federal grants, and other areas lacking necessary documentation.
Jordan also admonished Willis for her attempts to discredit a whistleblower, who had exposed her misuse of federal funds, and for her tactics of diverting attention away from the central issue. Jordan further emphasized: “The allegations… about your misuse of federal grant funding are concerning, and the Committee has an obligation to examine them.”
He highlighted the inaction from Willis’s side even after her assurances of forthcoming documents and gave a stringent deadline for submitting all requested documents by 12:00 PM on March 28, 2024. Failing to comply, he warned, could result in contempt of Congress proceedings.
Willis currently faces potential disqualification from the Georgia election case against former President Trump and other defendants for conflict of interest. The possible conflict of interest revolves around Willis’s relationship with designated special prosecutor Nathan Wade and her failure to disclose said relationship. She also lied about the relationship and personally profited from it. Willis and her lover have been referred to the Georgia State Bar for ethics violations.
