Joe Biden has regurgitated a “repeatedly debunked” claim he has “traveled 17,000 miles” with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping.
The story is so clearly false that even news outlets that typically prop up the 81-year-old Democrat, including CNN and the Washington Post, have debunked it.
Writing in 2021, the WaPo gave Biden a rating of “three Pinocchios” for his claims he and Xi had “traveled around the world together” when he was Vice President.
The White House acknowledged at the time that Biden’s tall tales about traveling 17,000 miles “with” Xi were inaccurate: “This was a reference to the total travel back and forth — both internally in the U.S. and China, and as well as internationally — for meetings they held together,” an official said. “Some travel was in parallel, some was separately to joint destinations.”
Even this appears untrue, however, as Biden’s total travel time on the relevant trips works out at only 3,300 miles to 5,600 miles, depending on whether or not his return flights are included.
The Post escalated Biden’s rating to a “Bottomless Pinocchio” in 2022 after he kept repeating the lie — more than 20 times. His latest repetition of the lie indicates this was still not enough to persuade him to stop using it.
Biden: "I was with Xi Jinping in the Tibetan plateau. I traveled 17,000 miles with him…"
