Vice President JD Vance says the Iran war cost Republicans Congress in Tuesday’s midterms. Two years ago, The National Pulse told President Trump to keep the neocons out of his administration for exactly this reason.
“The reason we lost is the war,” Vance wrote on X Wednesday morning. “The president himself said so last night.”
“If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so,” he continued. “But everyone knows why we lost.”
He then turned to the war’s critics on the right: “To the people who are pissed off and want to say, ‘I told you so’: you’re right, you did tell us so.”
The National Pulse did. Days after the 2024 election, The National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem J. Kassam published “A Letter to President Trump: KEEP THE NEOCONS OUT – For Your Own Good!”
“Personnel is policy,” Kassam wrote. “Keep these people out of your cabinet. Keep the war lobby out of the Oval Office.”

In March 2025, Kassam warned that the hawks wanted “a more bloodthirsty SecDef who will start a war with Iran.” Weeks into the war this March, he wrote that “the best resolution isn’t tomahawk missiles and regime change wars.” Days later, he added: “The ‘intel’ forming the casus belli is dodgy. Very.”
The war was sold in late February as a four-to-five-week operation. It is now in its eighth month. The Pentagon says 23 U.S. troops have been killed and 865 wounded.
Vance wrote that “many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026,” and that the top reason pollsters heard was “End the war.”
President Trump agreed, in part. “I think it’s largely true because it drove the gasoline up,” he told reporters Wednesday, in a clip posted by the White House. “At the same time, if I had to do it again, I’d have to do it again.”
