
Two weeks ago, Frank Cannon talked about the remarkable Walker slump in the polls. Others are finally noticing:
Walker’s backers see a campaign discombobulated by Trump’s booming popularity and by his provocative language on immigration, China and other issues. They see in Walker a candidate who — in contrast to the discipline he showed in state races — continues to commit unforced errors, either out of lack of preparation or in an attempt to grab for part of the flamboyant businessman’s following.

The newest Des Moines Register-Bloomberg Politics Iowa poll, released Saturday night, showed Walker’s support plummeting, underscoring the severity of the problems. Iowa is the linchpin of Walker’s early-state strategy, the place where he has been leading the polls for much of the year and where a victory has long been assumed among his senior staff.
