Ninety-year-old Fran Itkoff, a dedicated volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in California, was dismissed for not understanding how to use woke gender pronouns.
The details: Itkoff was dismissed for failing to “abide by [the MS Society’s] Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion [DEI] guidelines” and put her pronouns in her e-mail signature.
- Itkoff said: “I was confused. I didn’t know what it was and what it meant.”
Back up: Itkoff volunteered with the MS Society for 60 years and received multiple awards for her dedication before her forced exit. She was inspired to volunteer after her husband was diagnosed with the condition.
Her dismissal: A few days later, Itkoff received an e-mail telling her to “step down” from her volunteer role for failing to comply with the company’s DEI policies.
- The e-mail reads: “Unfortunately, based on the situation, we have made the difficult decision to have you step down from your volunteer position, effective immediately.”
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting the brain and spinal cord, leading to nerve damage that causes physical and cognitive impairments.
The final word goes to Itkoff’s daughter, Elle Hamilton, who told Chaya Raichik (aka @LibsOfTikTok):
- “It’s ironic, because they are saying they are inclusive, but they are excluding a 90-year-old disabled woman who has volunteered for 60 years.”
