Tyler Anderson, a 30-year-old New Hampshire man, was arrested last weekend after allegedly issuing death threats to Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and his political supporters.
The threats, including graphic violence, were allegedly sent in response to a message sent by Ramaswamy’s campaign to Anderson. Federal agents traced the threats back to Anderson’s phone and home address, leading to his arrest on Saturday.
Court documents reveal that Anderson confessed to sending threatening messages during an interview with an FBI agent. The documents also indicate that officials recovered multiple firearms and copies of threatening messages from Anderson’s phone.
If convicted, Anderson may face maximum penalties of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Ramaswamy expressed his gratitude to those who intervened to ensure safety following the arrest. “I’m grateful to the people on the front lines who work hard every day to make sure people like me and other Americans are kept safe,” he said.
Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for Ramaswamy, commended law enforcement for their swift response in handling the threats. However, she criticized media coverage. “We constantly hear about Jan. 6 and ‘violence’ and ‘extremism on the right’ from the media, but the same media goes silent when the target is a Republican,” she said.
