BBC: Trump’s Inaugural Comments on Mars and Manifest Destiny a ‘Nod and a Wink’ to ‘White Supremacist Movement.’

BBC veteran journalist Gabriel Gatehouse branded a reference to Americans “pursu[ing] our manifest destiny… to plant the stars and stripes on the planet Mars” in President Donald J. Trump’s inaugural address a “nod and a wink” to the “white supremacist movement” on the de facto state broadcaster’s flagship politics show.

The BBC, which all Britons who watch live programming—even if none of it is BBC content—are required to fund through a television license fee, is using social media to promote a clip of Gatehouse discussing his idea of “manifest destiny” on its Newsnight program, where he was formerly international editor.

“Manifest destiny was an ideology in the 19th century that talked about moving westwards, the kind of manifest destiny of American colonists to colonize the land, to expand the United States and, you know, wiping out indigenous people as they went,” Gatehouse said.

“I don’t know whether Donald Trump knows what the resonance of that is, but I know that quite a few of his audience do; people on the kind of fringes of the white supremacist movement,” he alleged, adding: “That was a nod and a wink”—which would only make sense if President Trump did, in fact, believe “manifest destiny” was a coded allusion to white supremacy.

Contrary to the claims on the BBC, manifest destiny—properly understood—is actually rooted in the belief that America is an exceptional nation with a providential place among the nations in the world.

The BBC is required by law to be politically impartial. Still, it has been widely regarded even by its own employees as biased and institutionally liberal for years. Reform Party leader Nigel Farage accused it of feeding a hysterical anti-Trump narrative leading up to the assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.

Trump Criticizes Putin, Claims He Is ‘Destroying Russia.’

President Donald J. Trump delivered a forceful warning to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Monday while speaking with reporters in the Oval Office. Trump, who was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States earlier in the day, said Putin is “destroying Russia” by continuing to wage war on Ukraine.

“He can’t be thrilled, he’s not doing so well,” President Trump said of Putin’s military campaign against Russia’s western neighbor. He continued: “Russia is bigger, they have more soldiers to lose, but that’s no way to run a country.”

While Trump’s Democratic Party opponents have tried to portray him as a Putin ally, the Republican President has a history of being blunt and firm-handed with the Russian leader. Additionally, following Trump’s landslide 2024 election victory, some Russian officials expressed reservations due to what they view as Trump’s unpredictability.

Despite U.S.-Russian tensions, Trump did indicate the possibility of a forthcoming conversation with Putin. On Tuesday, Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s adviser on foreign affairs, acknowledged the potential for dialogue. Ushakov noted that Russia was aware of Trump’s comments and expressed a willingness to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine if the U.S. administration extended an invitation for talks.

“We are ready and open for dialogue with the new U.S. administration on the Ukraine conflict,” Ushakov remarked. He added that any overtures from Washington in this regard would be welcomed by Russia, signaling Moscow’s openness to negotiations.

Meanwhile, several hours before Trump’s inauguration, Putin strongly commended the new U.S. leader. Putin lauded Trump’s campaign efforts and election win as “courageous” and “convincing.”

Fetterman Denies Rumors He’ll Switch Parties: ‘It’s Not Gonna Happen.’

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is denying rumors that he intends to switch his affiliation from the Democratic to the Republican Party. The Pennsylvania Democrat’s partisan intentions became the subject of feverish speculation on social media after New Jersey Assemblyman Jamel Holley claimed he was told a prominent Democrat Senator would soon announce they were switching political parties.

“Just left a conversation and my source indicated to me that a key Democratic senator is expected to change party affiliation to Republican by next week. Wow!” Holley wrote on X (formerly Twitter) late Monday. A New Jersey state Democrat lawmaker, Holley is a close political ally of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Donald J. Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“That’s amateur hour shit,” Sen. Fetterman said in response to the social media rumors regarding his potential party switch. He continued: “It’s not gonna happen. And even if I wanted to do that, that is a rocket sled to Palookaville to try to switch. I would make a pretty bad Republican.”

He emphasized that he would not follow the path of former Senators Joe Manchin (I-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), both of whom changed their political affiliations from Democrat to Independent while serving in office.

Earlier this month, Fetterman raised eyebrows among his U.S. Senate Democrat colleagues when he bucked party leadership and met with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago. After the meeting, Trump lauded the Pennsylvania Senator, calling him “fascinating” and adding: “I couldn’t be more impressed.”

“He’s a commonsense person. He’s not liberal or conservative. He’s just a commonsense person, which is beautiful,” Trump said of Fetterman.

President Trump Issues Blanket Clemency for January 6 Defendants.

President Donald J. Trump is granting comprehensive clemency to individuals involved in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021. The clemency affects nearly 1,600 individuals charged in connection with the event, offering pardons to most and commuting sentences for 14 members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, organizations whose members were largely convicted of seditious conspiracy.

The decision reverses the sentences for both nonviolent offenders and those who engaged in assault against law enforcement officers during the riot. The move effectively nullifies years of lawfare by the Biden government, which saw prosecutorial overreach and enhanced sentences predicated on dubious legal statutes.

In the directive, President Trump instructs the Department of Justice (DOJ) to dismiss remaining indictments against individuals facing charges related to the January 6 incident. “They’ve already been in jail for a long time,” Trump said, announcing the clemency from the Oval Office. He added: “These people have been destroyed.”

The clemency extends to approximately 1,000 defendants facing misdemeanor charges such as disorderly conduct, unauthorized entry to restricted Capitol areas, and trespassing. Several of these individuals have served limited or no jail time. Additionally, the pardons also cover those charged with assaulting law enforcement—some of whom are serving sentences exceeding ten years.

Additionally, the decision allows for the immediate release and expungement of records for the defendants.

President Trump Begins Mass Firing of Biden Govt Appointees.

President Donald J. Trump revealed late Monday that his White House is already undertaking the removal of former President Joe Biden’s remaining political appointees, including those holding influential positions on presidential and national commissions. In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced he is dismissing over one thousand appointees who do not align with his “Make America Great Again Agenda.”

“Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” the newly inaugurated President wrote. Trump singled out four individuals specifically for dismissal: “Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council.”

President Trump concluded with an emphatic: “YOU’RE FIRED!”

Additionally, Trump emphasized the ongoing efforts of his Presidential Personnel Office, highlighting their role in identifying and removing over a thousand appointees from the prior administration. He stated that this operation was vital to ensure alignment with his administration’s objectives, underscoring the need for unity in pursuing his policy vision.

Consequently, the Trump White House actions come alongside signing an executive order focused on easing the process of terminating federal employees in policy-making positions. This order responds to what Trump described as “numerous and well-documented cases” of career employees obstructing executive directives. The order underscores the importance of accountability, especially for those in influential roles, and aims to restore principles of good administration within the federal civil service.

Trump Suspends Foreign Aid — But Ukraine Claims It Is Unaffected.

President Donald J. Trump has signed an executive order halting all U.S. foreign assistance for 90 days. This suspension is intended to give his administration time to scrutinize whether these programs align with its policy objectives, although Ukraine claims its military aid is unaffected.

Trump believes the “foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases antithetical to American values” and “serve to destabilize world peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly inverse to harmonious and stable relations internal to and among countries.”

He insists no foreign aid “shall be disbursed in a manner that is not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the President of the United States.”

However, Ukrainian media claims Ukraine is not covered by the suspension, and some foreign aid already appropriated by Congress or required by treaty may be unaffected.

As of mid-December 2023, the Biden-Harris government was discussing around $68 billion to 204 countries.

Trump Warns of Possible Military Action Against Cartels in Mexico.

In an Oval Office discussion on Monday night, former President Donald J. Trump entertained the notion of potential U.S. military operations in Mexico. Reporter Peter Doocy asked the 45th and now 47th President, “If the [Mexican drug] cartels are now going to be seen as foreign terror organizations, would you think about ordering U.S. Special Forces into Mexico to take them out?” President Trump replied, “Could happen. Stranger things have happened.”

Shortly thereafter, Trump did sign an executive order “designating the cartels and other organizations to be foreign terrorist organizations,” explaining, “People have wanted to do this for years. So they are now designated as terrorist organizations, foreign, and Mexico probably doesn’t want that, but we have to do what’s right.”

He added: “They’re killing our people. They’re killing 250, 300,000 American people a year, not 100, like has been reported for 15 years. It’s probably 300,000.”

WATCH: Trump Signs Executive Orders at Arena Rally for Supporters.

President Donald J. Trump has signed a number of executive orders at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. The America First leader also pledged to free many January 6 protestors immediately, describing them as “hostages.”

President Trump first signed an order reversing close to 80 of predecessor Joe Biden‘s executive actions. The second froze new regulations until the incoming administration has full control of the government, and the third did the same for federal hiring, excepting the military and “a number of other excluded categories.”

Trump also signed orders requiring federal workers to return to in-person work “immediately,” directing federal agencies to focus on resolving the cost-of-living crisis, and withdrawing from the Paris climate treaty. He previously withdrew from the treaty during his first term, but Biden quickly reversed this.

Trump also signed an order for the government to end censorship and promote free speech, and, finally, signed an order ending the weaponization of federal government against political opponents.

Senate Passes Laken Riley Act.

The United States Senate has passed the Laken Riley Act by 64-35, mandating the federal detention and deportation of illegal immigrants who are arrested for crimes like shoplifting and other theft-related crimes. The bill will now head back to the House of Representatives to reconcile minor changes to the legislation.

An initial attempt to enact the legislation last year was blocked by Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill. However, following President Donald J. Trump’s landslide 2024 election victory and public opinion turning hard against illegal immigration, the bill gained renewed momentum and passed the House in early January.

Sponsored by Representative Mike Collins (R-GA), The Laken Riley Act was introduced following the murder of its namesake, Laken Riley—a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student—by José Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela. On November 20, 2024, Ibarra was found guilty of ten counts of intent to rape, felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and aggravated assault. The murder of Laken Riley became a major issue during the 2024 presidential campaign and came to symbolize the Biden-Harris government’s failed border policies. The Georgia girl’s parents backed President Trump’s bid to retake the White House and restore U.S. border security and deport the unprecedented number of illegal immigrants allowed in the country by Joe Biden.

After taking the Presidential Oath of Office earlier on Monday, President Trump swiftly moved to close the U.S. southern border. The infamous checkpoint in El Paso, Texas, where Ibarra entered the country, was shut down. Meanwhile, President Trump also suspended the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) CBP One app, which Biden used to parole hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into the United States.

Trump’s Defense Sec Nominee Pete Hegseth Advances to Full Senate Vote.

Pete Hegseth, President Donald J. Trump‘s nominee to lead the Department of Defense (DoD), has cleared a critical confirmation hurdle. His nomination passed out of the Senate Armed Services Committee on a fourteen-to-three partisan line vote. Democratic Party lawmakers on Capitol Hill have tried to derail the Hegseth nomination to no avail, and the Army veteran and former Fox News host is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate.

During Hegseth’s confirmation hearing last week, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) baselessly questioned the Secretary of Defense nominee’s qualifications to lead the department, suggesting he would better serve as the DoD’s communications chief. The National Pulse reported that Blumenthal, infamously, has engaged in stolen valor—falsely telling Connecticut voters in the mid-2000s that he served in Vietnam. However, the Connecticut Demcorat’s military records show no such service. In fact, Blumenthal was safely stationed in Washington, D.C.—nearly 9,000 miles from the conflict.

Additionally, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has attempted to smear Hegseth as an extremist threat due to his Jerusalem Cross tattoo. The cross is an important symbol to Roman Catholics and is displayed in countless churches worldwide.

Hegseth, although not a Catholic, sports a large Jerusalem Cross tattoo on his chest, a symbol of the city of Jerusalem and the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem.
