COVID Restrictions Return… In DeSantis’s Florida!?

COVID-19 pandemic era restrictions appear to be returning in Florida, with the Palm Beach Gardens High School, part of the Palm Beach County school district, announcing its Friday night football game against Vero Beach is postponed until September 6th “out of an abundance of caution.”

The news comes shortly after the Florida Governor took aim at former President Donald J. Trump in absentia, for his pandemic handling from the Milwaukee GOP debate stage.

DeSantis has made his response to the COVID-19 pandemic a cornerstone of his campaign’s message to voters, expressing staunch opposition to new lockdowns, school closures, mask requirements, and vaccine mandates. During debate, he said: “It should have never happened. And in Florida, we led the country out of lockdown, kept our state free and open.”

In 2022, DeSantis pushed back against Florida school districts that sought to reinstate mask mandates and closures during outbreaks of COVID-19, telling the press at the time: “Our schools will be open in the state of Florida… If you’re healthy, you need to be in school.”

Despite his bravado, the latest news from Palm Beach Gardens High School suggests that DeSantis’s fight against pandemic restrictions has been less successful than advertised. The National Pulse previously reported that Governor DeSantis failed to fire his state’s very own Dr. Fauci, Palm Beach County Department of Health director Dr. Alina Alonso.

Dr. Alonso, known as “the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in Palm Beach County,” was given free rein during the COVID pandemic to enforce arbitrary restrictions upon millions of Floridians, including the implementation of mask mandates, establishment of a COVID hotline for lockdown snitches, and even creating an armed COVID compliance police force. In 2023, Dr. Alonso retired, stating her replacement Dr. Jyothi Gunta, “will make a great new director.”

WATCH: Dems Mistake TSA for ICE, Protest Their Dinner.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Anti-ICE agitators mistakenly targeted two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents having dinner at a restaurant in Lynwood, California, on Wednesday evening—prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office to be called and engage in crowd control.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Anti-ICE agitators, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Wednesday evening in Lynwood, California.

🎯IMPACT: The Wednesday night demonstration follows weeks of anti-ICE agitators confronting federal law enforcement agents in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota.

IN FULL

Anti-ICE agitators mistakenly targeted two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents having dinner at a restaurant in Lynwood, California, on Wednesday evening—prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office to be called and engage in crowd control. The two TSA agents were mistakenly identified by unknown individuals as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, prompting a crowd of demonstrators to show up outside the restaurant, with several carrying Mexican flags and others carrying anti-ICE signs.

In footage from the scene, several Los Angeles County Sheriff officers can be seen forming a loose perimeter around the dining establishment, while several dozen anti-ICE agitators blow horns, whistles, and wave flags and signs. Local reports indicate the TSA agents were forced to call the sheriff for backup as the crowd gathered outside.

When one of the protest organizers was asked whether the group thought it was ICE dining at the restaurant, she responded, “Potentially.” After a brief standoff, the TSA agents were escorted out of the area by sheriff’s department deputies. There were no arrests or injuries.

The Wednesday night demonstration follows weeks of anti-ICE agitators confronting federal law enforcement agents in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota. In addition, other cities have seen numerous vehicle ramming incidents where activists—and in some cases criminal illegal immigrants—have purposely slammed their cars into vehicles believed to be occupied by ICE and other federal agents.

Car Rams Chabad World Headquarters, Synagogue in Targeted Brooklyn Attack.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A Honda sedan repeatedly rammed into the Chabad world headquarters in Brooklyn in an apparent attack.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: A male suspect, who was taken into custody, and law enforcement officials.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Wednesday evening around 8:46 PM at 770 Eastern Parkway, Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We are deeply disturbed by reports of an incident that occurred tonight in Brooklyn. Just minutes ago, a car repeatedly rammed into 770 Eastern Parkway. This building is not only a synagogue, but also the worldwide @ChabadHeadquarters and a beloved symbol of Judaism around the world.” – Chabad organization in a statement.

🎯IMPACT: No injuries were reported, though the incident is being investigated as a targeted attack against the Jewish community.

IN FULL

A car repeatedly crashed into the Chabad world headquarters in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening in what police believe may have been an intentional act, prompting heightened concern within the Jewish community amid broader national debates over antisemitism. According to law enforcement, a Honda sedan drove onto the sidewalk and struck the building at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights around 8:46 PM, ramming the entrance and double doors multiple times. Video footage circulated online shows the vehicle backing up and slamming into the structure repeatedly.

After the collisions, the driver exited the vehicle and was heard shouting, “I fucking slipped, you asshole.” Police confirmed that one male suspect was taken into custody. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and have not yet released information regarding a possible motive. No injuries were reported.

The Chabad organization, a movement within ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Judaism, issued a statement expressing alarm over the incident and emphasizing the importance of the site. “We are deeply disturbed by reports of an incident that occurred tonight in Brooklyn. Just minutes ago, a car repeatedly rammed into 770 Eastern Parkway. This building is not only a synagogue, but also the worldwide @ChabadHeadquarters and a beloved symbol of Judaism around the world,” the statement read.

The incident comes as antisemitism continues to be a major point of concern nationwide. In recent years, Jewish institutions, synagogues, and schools have reported increased threats and attacks, while political and cultural disputes over antisemitism have intensified. Last year, the Trump administration moved to halt approximately $500 million in federal funding to Brown University, citing concerns over the school’s handling of antisemitism complaints and campus safety for Jewish students.

Top Dems Admit Taxpayer-Funded, Organized Anti-ICE Operations

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) admitted he is in regular communication with other mayors of so-called “sanctuary cities” to impede federal immigration enforcement.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Democratic Mayors Brandon Johnson (Chicago), Jacob Frey (Minneapolis), Michelle Wu (Boston), and others, alongside U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Johnson revealed the coordination among Democrat mayors at a press conference on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We are working on additional measures that we believe will make Chicago the first city in the country to be able to effectively hold ICE and Border Patrol officers accountable for criminal misconduct.” – Brandon Johnson

🎯IMPACT: The remarks allude to an organized effort by Democrat sanctuary city mayors to actively obstruct and interfere with federal immigration enforcement operations beyond refusing to cooperate with ICE detainers.

IN FULL

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) said Wednesday that he has been in “regular communication” with other mayors of so-called sanctuary cities to coordinate responses to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Johnson said cities including Minneapolis, Portland, Oakland, Boston, Denver, and Baltimore are sharing strategies. He specifically credited Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) for offering guidance, saying, “To respond to the operation in Chicago, I leaned heavily on other cities’ responses, like Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass shared her experience governing while the city was in Trump’s crosshairs.”

Johnson pointed to Chicago’s creation of “ICE-Free Zones” as a cornerstone of its approach. The policy bars ICE and Border Patrol agents from using city-owned property or entering it without a judicial warrant. “In August, we signed our most sweeping executive order. This executive order established what we call ICE-Free Zones, essentially prohibiting ICE and Border Patrol from staging on city properties and entering city properties without a judicial warrant… This had not been done anywhere in the country…,” Johnson said.

The mayor said Chicago is preparing other actions aimed at federal agents, adding, “We are working on additional measures that we believe will make Chicago the first city in the country to be able to effectively hold ICE and Border Patrol officers accountable for criminal misconduct.” He has previously threatened legal consequences for agents accused of wrongdoing during enforcement actions.

The comments come amid rising tensions tied to immigration enforcement nationwide. In Minneapolis, two fatal shootings occurred during confrontations involving Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel and anti-ICE activists. Other cities have seen violent incidents as well. In Portland, anti-ICE rioters targeted an ICE facility and allegedly planned to use lasers against federal law enforcement aircraft. In Chicago, ICE agents have reported vehicle ramming attempts and gunfire during operations.

Chicago has been at the center of immigration controversies under Johnson’s leadership. In 2025, he drew criticism after calling the term “illegal alien” “racist” and “nasty,” arguing the city should use “undocumented” instead. That same year, a Cook County grand jury declined to indict several armed anti-ICE agitators accused of violent conduct during protests.

Border Czar Tom Homan Strikes Shock ICE Drawdown Agreement With Minnesota Dems.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: White House border czar Tom Homan announced the Trump administration will drawdown the number of federal immigration officers in Minnesota after Democrat lawmakers agreed to ensure county jails will notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents of release dates for “criminal public safety risks.”

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D), Tom Homan, President Donald J. Trump, and ICE officers.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Thursday morning in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This is common sense cooperation that allows us to draw down the number of people we have here. Yes, I said it. Draw down the number of people here.” – Tom Homan

🎯IMPACT: The agreement aims to reduce the number of federal immigration enforcement officers needed in Minnesota and prioritize public safety risks.

IN FULL

White House border czar Tom Homan announced on Thursday that the Trump administration will begin drawing down the number of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minnesota. The reduction in the number of federal immigration agents is part of an agreement reached between Homan and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D).

Homan stressed that the drawdown is only possible if Minnesota lawmakers uphold their end of the agreement. “This is common sense cooperation that allows us to draw down the number of people we have here. Yes, I said it. Draw down the number of people here,” Homan said at a press conference.

According to the White House border czar, Ellison has committed to ensuring that Minnesota county jails will now notify ICE agents as to the release dates for individuals deemed “criminal public safety risks.” Homan continued, “One ICE agent can arrest one bad guy when he’s behind the safety and security of a jail when he’s behind bars, and we know he doesn’t have weapons.”

Despite the agreement on handing over “criminal public safety risks,” Homan stressed that ICE operations would continue until “the problem’s gone.” He stated that illegal immigrants posing public safety or national security threats would be prioritized for enforcement actions.

Homan was dispatched to Minnesota by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to oversee ICE operations following weeks of violent anti-ICE protests and confrontations. “We’ve made a lot of progress in the past three days,” Homan said, adding, “I’m here on behalf of the President… I am on the ground to re-gain law and order, and work to remove threats from the community.”

Addressing the leftist anti-ICE agitators and their funders, Homan declared, “The organization and funding of attacks on ICE—they will be held accountable. Justice is coming.”

Rubio Explains Trump Plan to Control Venezuelan Oil Trade.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The Trump administration announced plans to allow Venezuela to sell oil currently under sanctions, with revenue to fund basic government services and under U.S. oversight.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Venezuelan interim leaders including acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Rubio’s remarks were made on Wednesday at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, with developments in Venezuela ongoing.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The funds from that will be deposited into an account that we will have oversight over,” Rubio said, emphasizing U.S. control over the revenue allocation.

🎯IMPACT: The move aims to stabilize Venezuela’s economy and transition its oil industry while ensuring funds benefit citizens rather than corrupt leaders.

IN FULL

The Trump administration has announced plans to permit Venezuela to sell oil currently under sanctions, with the caveat that revenue will be directed to funding essential government services. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the arrangement during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, stating that the U.S. Treasury Department would oversee the process to ensure the funds are used appropriately.

“The funds from that will be deposited into an account that we will have oversight over,” Rubio said. He added that the revenue would be used for the benefit of the Venezuelan people, including funding for healthcare and public safety. The U.S. will not subsidize oil industry investments in Venezuela but will oversee the sale of petroleum as an interim measure to prevent economic collapse.

Rubio highlighted that under the South American country’s former Marxist dictator, Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s oil industry was exploited to benefit corrupt officials and communist states like China and Cuba. He noted that Venezuela’s interim leaders are now cooperating with the U.S. to seize illegal oil shipments. Revenue from oil sales is expected to flow into sovereign wealth funds, with one supporting healthcare services and the other improving public infrastructure.

Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed that her government has established communication channels with U.S. officials. Rodríguez also announced efforts to revamp the country’s energy laws to attract private foreign investment. The U.S. fund for oil revenue was initially set up in Qatar to avoid legal complications and ensure American creditors do not seize the proceeds.

Rubio clarified that while the U.S. controls the dispersal of funds, the account itself belongs to Venezuela. “It’s an account that belongs to Venezuela, but it has U.S. sanctions as a blocking mechanism,” he said. Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been set aside, with as much as $3 billion more anticipated from future sales.

While Rubio’s comments suggest progress in transitioning Venezuela away from the practices of the Maduro regime continues, hurdles remain. The National Pulse reported on Monday that Rodríguez appears to be publicly breaking with U.S. President Donald J. Trump, delivering a sharp rebuke of American involvement in Venezuelan politics during a speech to oil workers in Puerto La Cruz last Sunday. “Enough already of Washington’s orders over politicians in Venezuela,” she said, calling for the country to resolve its own internal conflicts.

Dozens Arrested After Mamdani-Backed Anti-ICE Agitators Occupied Hotel.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Police arrested dozens of anti-ICE agitators after they occupied a hotel lobby in New York City and blocked pedestrian traffic.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The New York City Police Department (NYPD), Sunrise Movement activists, and other anti-ICE agitators.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Tuesday at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sixth Avenue in Tribeca, Lower Manhattan, New York City.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Everyday people have the power to shut down ICE’s ability to operate. We are making it impossible for ICE to get a moment’s rest.” – Sunrise Movement

🎯IMPACT: The protest disrupted operations at the hotel and led to over 65 arrests.

IN FULL

The New York Police Department (NYPD) on Tuesday arrested dozens of anti-ICE agitators after they attempted to occupy a New York City hotel lobby and blocked pedestrians in the area. The protest occurred at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sixth Avenue in the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan.

The Sunrise Movement, a far-left activist group that organized the protest, claimed the hotel was housing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal law enforcement. The group stated on social media, “BREAKING: 65+ New Yorkers have been arrested for occupying the lobby of a Hilton in NYC that’s housing ICE. Everyday people have the power to shut down ICE’s ability to operate. We are making it impossible for ICE to get a moment’s rest.”

Another post from the organization claimed, “100+ New Yorkers have taken over the lobby of a Hilton housing ICE agents. We won’t stand for a company that aids a fascist military killing and abducting our neighbors.” Protestors chanted slogans such as “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA” and “ICE out of New York.”

In one video, protestors reportedly chanted, “Kristi Noem will hang,” referencing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. Nevertheless, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s spokesman, Sam Raskin, said the city government backed the protestors, stating, “Mayor Mamdani commends the protestors who exercised their right to protest against ICE today. As he has said, ICE is a rogue agency that has repeatedly carried out cruel, inhumane, and lawless raids, arrests, shootings, and even targeted American citizens.”

Federal Investigation Finds Newsom’s California Illegally Concealed Kids’ Gender Transitions From Parents.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The U.S. Department of Education has found the California Department of Education in violation of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for policies pressuring schools to conceal information about student gender transitions from parents.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The U.S. Department of Education, the California Department of Education, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), and U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The investigation findings were announced on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, focusing on California’s education policies and practices.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Our investigation found that the California Department of Education egregiously abused its authority by pressuring school officials to withhold information about students’ so-called ‘gender transitions’ from their parents.” – Secretary Linda McMahon

🎯IMPACT: California risks losing federal funding unless it voluntarily resolves its FERPA violations and clarifies parents’ rights to access educational records.

IN FULL

The U.S. Department of Education has concluded that the California Department of Education violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) by encouraging schools to withhold information about students’ gender transitions from their parents. FERPA guarantees parents the right to access their children’s education records, and federal investigators said California policies and guidance undermined that right. U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said the findings showed that state officials overstepped their authority.

“Our investigation found that the California Department of Education egregiously abused its authority by pressuring school officials to withhold information about students’ so-called ‘gender transitions’ from their parents,” Sec. McMahon said. She also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), accusing state leadership of enabling gender transitions for minors while excluding parents from key decisions.

According to the Department’s Student Privacy Policy Office, some schools created “gender support plans” that were kept separate from standard student records to prevent parental access. During a press call, a senior Education Department official said districts discussed using specialized software to conceal gender-related information and exchanged emails about overriding parents’ ability to see name changes and other records. The investigation found that schools that followed FERPA and informed parents were allegedly targeted by state officials for noncompliance with California guidance.

The Department offered California an opportunity to resolve the violations voluntarily. Proposed steps include formally notifying school administrators that gender support plans qualify as education records subject to parental inspection and ensuring state policies do not conflict with federal law. If California refuses to comply, the state could face enforcement action, including the potential loss of federal education funding.

One case cited by investigators involved a mother who sued her daughter’s school after discovering that staff had encouraged her daughter to identify as a transgender boy and taught her how to use chest binders. School officials justified withholding the information by citing a “parental secrecy policy,” a practice the Department said violated FERPA.

The federal action comes amid ongoing legal disputes over gender policies in California schools. In late 2025, a judge ruled that California schools could not conceal students’ gender transitions from parents, finding that such secrecy policies violated parental rights. That ruling has since been paused while the state appeals. At the same time, California has continued advancing gender-related education policies, including a law backed by Gov. Newsom requiring gender-neutral bathrooms in public schools by 2026.

Anti-ICE Activists Are Using a State-Run Site to Report ICE Agents to Dem AG.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Anti-ICE agitators in Signal chats are reportedly using a state-run portal to report federal immigration agents to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s (D) office.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Activists in Signal groups, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and federal agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

📍WHEN & WHERE: Minnesota, with details emerging from Signal chats and protests near the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The investigation aims to determine whether participants are placing federal agents ‘in harm’s way.'” – Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel regarding an ongoing investigation into activist Signal chats.

🎯IMPACT: The FBI has launched an investigation into Signal chats for potential violations of federal law, including incitement and endangerment of law enforcement.

IN FULL

Anti-ICE agitators in Minnesota using encrypted Signal group chats to coordinate actions against federal immigration enforcement are reportedly informing on federal agents to leftist Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D) through a state-run portal created by his office. The online form allows users to submit written narratives, photos, and videos describing encounters with or perceived harms linked to federal enforcement actions.

Ellison’s office says the portal is intended to document a range of impacts from federal activity, including alleged constitutional violations and public safety concerns. Notably, Ellison has previously filed a lawsuit seeking to block Department of Homeland Security (DHS) actions in Minnesota.

According to numerous reports, large and organized Signal chats are being used to share real-time information about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol operations in Minnesota in order to disrupt them. Federal authorities have confirmed that these activities are under investigation.

Some Signal threads reportedly include as many as 1,000 participants, and members organizing themselves into “shifts” to observe and log vehicles they believe are being used by federal agents. Notably, some of the vehicles flagged later proved to be unrelated to federal law enforcement.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel said in a recent interview that the bureau is investigating whether individuals involved in the chats are placing federal agents “in harm’s way.” Patel cited concerns about the sharing of license plate numbers and real-time location data. He emphasized that the investigation is focused on potential violations of federal law and not on suppressing political expression or lawful dissent.

Convicted Criminals, Including Carjacker Who Beat Pregnant Woman, Found Among Arrested Anti-ICE Activists.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A protest outside a Minneapolis hotel turned chaotic, leading to the arrest of at least 26 anti-ICE demonstrators, including a man previously convicted of assaulting a pregnant woman.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Notable arrests included Justin Neal Shelton, a man with a violent criminal past, and Abraham Nelson Coleman, a convicted thief.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The incident occurred Monday night at the SpringHill Suites in Maple Grove.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The protest was declared an unlawful assembly after property damage and violence occurred.” – Police statement

🎯IMPACT: The arrests highlight the presence of criminals among the anti-ICE protestors in Minnesota.

IN FULL

Several convicted criminals were arrested on January 26 following chaotic protests outside of the SpringHill Suites hotel in Maple Grove, Minnesota, where far-left anti-ICE extremists besieged the hotel amid claims that Border Patrol leader Gregory Bovino was staying at the property. Among those arrested was Justin Neal Shelton, a 37-year-old St. Paul resident, who was charged with obstructing legal process. Court records show Shelton has a criminal history dating back to 2007, including a conviction for assaulting a pregnant woman during an attempted carjacking. He served approximately five years in prison for that offense.

Abraham Nelson Coleman, 45, was also taken into custody on allegations of damaging property outside the hotel. Coleman has accumulated multiple theft– and property-related convictions since 2003, according to public records. Another arrest involved Rayna Michelle Alston, 21, who was booked on a riot charge. Alston has previously voiced support for anti-ICE demonstrations on social media, where she has shared posts calling for disruption and resistance against federal immigration enforcement.

According to authorities, officers intervened after incidents of property damage and confrontations with law enforcement were reported. The Maple Grove Police Department said, “The protest was declared an unlawful assembly after property damage and violence occurred.”

The Maple Grove protest occurred amid heightened tensions surrounding federal immigration operations in Minnesota. In recent weeks, anti-ICE activists have staged demonstrations at hotels, government buildings, and other locations believed to be connected to Immigration and Customs Enforcement or Customs and Border Protection activity. Some of those protests elsewhere in the state have escalated into outright violence, with federal agents reporting injuries during clashes with demonstrators attempting to block enforcement actions.

Some hotels are canceling or restricting bookings for federal agents, citing safety concerns.

Top Democrat Wants to Ban ICE from Polling Stations – Despite Dems Claiming Illegals Don’t Vote?

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Former Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) called for a ban on ICE agents near polling places in the upcoming spending bill, sparking criticism online.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jay Inslee, Senate Democrats, and conservative critics.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The statement was made on January 28, with the issue tied to national election policies and legislation.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Hmmm. Interesting that you think ICE would suppress voting.” – Wade Miller, Center for Renewing America.

🎯IMPACT: Inslee’s remarks have reignited debates over election integrity, with non-citizens technically being banned from voting, but few safeguards in place to detect them doing so.

IN FULL

Former Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) ignited backlash this week after urging Congress to block U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from operating near polling places, calling the proposal a “must have” and warning it could be the “last chance to do this” as lawmakers negotiate a federal spending bill.

“In the midst of ICE horror, the Senate needs to prohibit Trump from using ICE as a voter suppression tool,” Inslee said, pressing Senate Democrats to include language barring ICE agents from being near polling locations on Election Day.

His remarks quickly drew criticism from conservative commentators, who argued that the proposal implicitly suggests that, contrary to longstanding Democrat claims that elections are safe and secure, illegal immigrants are voting in elections. Wade Miller, an advisor at the Center for Renewing America, remarked, “Hmmm. Interesting that you think ICE would suppress voting.”

The dispute comes amid heightened national debate over illegal immigration and election integrity. Congressional Republicans are advancing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Supporters say the bill is necessary to prevent noncitizens from voting, while Democrats dubiously argue that it would create barriers for eligible voters.

Peer-reviewed academic research suggests non-citizens do vote illegally in U.S. elections, usually for Democrats, in sufficient numbers to change outcomes, and “likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress.”
