The California Legislature has passed legislation empowering bureaucrats to sanction school boards that withdraw explicit books from schools or resist indoctrinating children with far-left gender, racial, and sexual ideology.
Despite its Democrat supermajority, the Golden State is home to many conservative enclaves, one of which recently tried to refuse to teach children lessons centered on Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist who groomed a 16-year-old in New York in his mid-thirties. The age of consent in New York is 17, while in California it is 18.
Governor Gavin Newsom hit the Temecula Valley Unified School District with a $1.5 million fine in retaliation, and the new bill the legislature has put on his desk, AB 1078, further increases the authorities’ powers to punish non-compliant conservatives.
“California is the true freedom state: a place where families – not political fanatics – have the freedom to decide what’s right for them,” the Governor declared as the bill was being passed, despite the fact it is clearly aimed at stopping conservatives from opting out of a particular poltiical agenda.
“All students deserve the freedom to read and learn about the truth, the world and themselves,” he added.
