Democrats who regularly rail against Christians and conservatives as Nazis are furious over Republican Representative Brian Mast (R-Fla.) comparing Gaza to Germany under National Socialism.
“I think when we look at this as a whole, I would encourage the other side to not so lightly throw around the idea of ‘innocent Palestinian civilians,’ as is frequently said,” Mast said during a discussion on the Israel-Hamas conflict in the House of Representatives.
“I don’t think we would so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II,” he added.
As the Nazis were elected by the German people in 1933 and Adolf Hitler elevated to Führer in a referendum a year later, Hamas won the last legislative election in Gaza in 2006. Unlike Gazan civilians, German civilians were also deliberately and openly targeted by the Allies during the war, with hundreds of thousands being killed in bombing raids on cities such as Dresden.
Nevertheless, Rep. Mast was roundly attacked by Democrat politicians including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Brian Schatz, and Maxwell Alejandro Frost, who branded the Republican a “bigoted” and “racist”.
The same politicians have shown no qualms about suggesting or openly accusing conservatives of being Nazis, fascists, and white supremacists in the past, however. Ocasio-Cortez said then-President Donald Trump “showed off his white nationalism for the world to see” in 2019, for example, while Schatz branded Trump an “overt racism” running on a platform of “white supremacy” in 2020.
Frost said Trump rival Ron DeSantis stands for “[f]ascism, white nationalism, and no freedom” in May, and has previously claimed the life of Trayvon Martin, killed in self-defense by a Hispanic man, lost his life “because of white supremacy.”
