A shooting in a suburb of Chicago has left a 39-year-old Jewish man critically injured. The incident occurred in broad daylight over the weekend, reportedly while the man was on his way to a synagogue.
The suspect, a 23-year-old male, has not yet been named publicly. An audio recording from a security camera in the vicinity reportedly captured the suspect shouting the Arabic phrase “Allahu Akbar”—which means “Allah is greater”—during the attack.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, providing immediate medical attention to the victim before transporting him to a nearby hospital. As of the latest available update, the victim remains in critical condition. Law enforcement agencies are appealing to the public for additional information to assist the investigation. The Jewish community is on high alert, and authorities are expected to increase their presence in key areas to address safety concerns.
“Allahu Akbar” is often shouted by radical Islamic terrorists during attacks in the United States, Europe, and beyond. Jews have come under increased threat since the Hamas terror raid on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent Israeli military interventions in Gaza and Lebanon.
