💬KEY QUOTE: “The President has said we have to review it, and this investigation has to continue.” – White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt
🎯IMPACT: The investigation into the shooting has sparked protests in Minnesota and prompted federal intervention, with the White House deploying Border Czar Tom Homan to oversee the situation.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents involved in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis over the weekend were wearing body cameras. The White House is reviewing the footage, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are interviewing witnesses and the agents involved, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“The President has said we have to review it and this investigation has to continue,” Leavitt said during the White House briefing on Monday. However, she did not commit—without first speaking to President Donald J. Trump—on whether the body camera footage would be released to the public.
Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem stated that all video evidence would be analyzed as part of the investigation. President Donald Trump also commented, saying his administration is “reviewing everything” related to the shooting. Both Trump and Leavitt have stressed the need for cooperation between federal and local law enforcement.
“Mr. Homan is the point person for cooperation between local and federal law enforcement,” Leavitt said at the White House, referring to Border Czar Tom Homan. She suggested that if Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) commit to ensuring criminal illegal immigrants detained by state and local law enforcement are handed over to federal agents, the current CBP presence in the state will change.
The National Pulse reported earlier on Monday that President Trump had announced in a post on Truth Social that he has spoken with Gov. Walz and that the Democrat will “work together” with the administration as ICE seeks to secure criminal illegal aliens in the state.
President Trump suggested that White House Border Czar Homan is heading to Minnesota to work with Walz on securing the criminal aliens currently held in state and local jails and transferring them to federal custody.
