President Donald J. Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that he has spoken with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) and that he will “work together” with the administration as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) looks to secure criminal illegal aliens in the state. In addition, President Trump stated that White House Border Czar Tom Homan is heading to Minnesota to work with Walz on securing the criminal aliens currently held in state and local jails and transferring them to federal custody.
“Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” Trump wrote just before noon on Monday, January 26. He continued, “I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession. The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future. He was happy that Tom Homan was going to Minnesota, and so am I!”
The President added, “We have had such tremendous SUCCESS in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have ‘touched’ and, even in Minnesota, Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better!”
Notably, the announcement by President Trump comes after a night of violent clashes between federal officers, local police, and anti-ICE protestors at the entrance of a Minneapolis hotel believed to be housing immigration enforcement agents. In a video of the incident, a bloodied federal agent can be seen standing guard after protestors were dispersed through the use of tear gas.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety stated, “The Minnesota State Patrol and DNR were called to assist Minneapolis police with damage to hotel property at Home2 Suites Hotel on University Avenue. While they collaboratively worked to encircle the group for arrests because the demonstration was not peaceful, federal agents arrived without communication and deployed chemical irritants, clearing the group.”
