An illegal alien who was freed by the Biden-Harris regime after being detained at the southern border has been arrested and charged with murdering an 18-year-old girl in Maryland. The 23-year-old from El Salvador, Gerber Luis Sanchez Centeno, is charged with the first-degree murder of an 18-year-old woman, Dania Cruz-Mejia, also from El Salvador. The incident occurred in Montgomery County, Maryland, a self-declared sanctuary county.
Authorities state that Sanchez Centeno and Cruz-Mejia had been in a relationship for two years before both entered the United States. According to police, Cruz-Mejia was murdered on September 18 during a dispute with Sanchez Centeno. After an investigation, police apprehended Sanchez Centeno two days later. He is currently held in Montgomery County Jail without the option of bail.
Records indicate that Cruz-Mejia entered the U.S. earlier this year. Sanchez Centeno crossed the southern border on June 2, where he was detained by Border Patrol agents near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. On that same day, he was placed in the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program, fitted with a GPS ankle monitor, and released. Federal data shows that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had available detention beds at the time of his release.
By early August, Sanchez Centeno had absconded from the monitoring program, leading DHS to terminate his enrollment. The practice of releasing migrants from ATD monitoring mere weeks after initiation has been on the rise under the current administration.
The case comes just after it was revealed that members of the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua were also released by the Biden-Harris regime into the United States after being detained at the border earlier this year. Another illegal arrested in June for the murder of a 12-year-old girl in Texas was also caught and released by the border officials.
