❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Police in Surrey, England, are investigating two historical allegations of child sexual abuse concerning deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. 📺 DETAIL: On Tuesday, the force announced an investigation into “non-recent child sexual abuse” on the basis of information in the approximately 3.5 million files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The first allegation concerns Surrey and Berkshire, two counties in southern England, with incidents reportedly occurring between the mid-1990s and the early 2000s. The second allegation concerns West Surrey, with incidents reportedly taking place in the mid-to-late 1980s. In February, Surrey Police sought information following the release of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) report “alleging non-recent human trafficking and sexual assaults on a minor in Virginia Water, Surrey, between 1994-1996.” Following an internal review, the British police force said it found no evidence of any such reports being made. Regarding the new investigation, no arrests have been made thus far. The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), a national co-ordination body of senior law enforcement officials in the United Kingdom, has confirmed that it is working with the National Crime Agency (NCA), an FBI-like agency dealing with organized crime, to review Epstein-related allegations in the United Kingdom. 🎯 IMPACT: The ongoing investigations underscore the international reach of Epstein’s network. In February, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown provided several police authorities across the United Kingdom with a dossier of information regarding Epstein’s air travel activities. “This memorandum provides new and additional information to that which I submitted last week to the [London], Essex, and Thames Valley police forces where I expressed my concern that we secure justice for trafficked girls and women,” the former prime minister said at the time. Specifically, the dossier revealed that Epstein had used Heathrow and Gatwick airports in London. |
