Maryland Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson has died after being gunned down in the driveway of his home in Hagerstown. The 52-year-old was transported to the Meritus Medical Center after the authorities discovered him around 8 p.m. last Thursday, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement officers were initially dispatched to the homes of other judges in the Old Line State as investigators scrambled to find a motive for the attack. Since then, they have named 49-year-old Pedro Argote, who had a divorce hearing before Wilkinson on Thursday, as their main suspect.
Police are warning the public “to not approach [Argote] but to immediately notify law enforcement” if they think they see him. His nationality has not been disclosed.
“Drew was an exceptional lawyer and a man who loved his family,” a former law colleague said of the slain judge. “His wife and kids were always his highest priority and my thoughts go out to them at this horrible time,” he added.
