9-Year Jail Term for Man Who Set Fire to Trash Can Outside Migrant Hotel.

A judge has issued the longest sentence to date linked to recent anti-immigration riots in the United Kingdom, sending painter-decorator Thomas Birley to prison for nine years after he set fire to a small trash can outside a Holiday Inn Express hotel near Rotherham on August 4.

Judge Jeremy Richardson at Sheffield Crown Court described Birley’s case as among the most serious connected to the Rotherham riot. During the incident, Birley, 27, was recorded adding wood to a burning trash can that had been pushed against the hotel, which was housing illegal migrants and asylum seekers. He further contributed to the hazard by stacking another bin on top, resulting in a conviction for arson with intent to endanger life.

In addition to the arson charge, Birley threw objects at police officers. Staff at the hotel testified that they feared for their lives, believing they were in imminent danger of burning to death due to the small trash-can fire.

By comparison, an “asylum seeker” who already had a criminal record was sentenced to just six months for attempting to burn down a hotel in 2023. Another with a similar case received just three years. In 2021, 13 migrant men were released without charge after attempting to burn down an army barracks being used to house them.

The riots erupted across England and Northern Ireland following the fatal knifing of three girls in Southport, northwest England, on July 29. Hundreds of individuals have been charged in connection with the riots. The UK judiciary is expediting these cases, resulting in significant sentences for those directly involved in violent acts and for inciting violence online.

Just three weeks ago, Judge Richardson told another suspect he was handing down a longer prison sentence “because of the racialist backdrop, which was a major component of this public disorder.”

More than 200 people have been sentenced in connection with the disorder, ranging from a 13-year-old to a 69-year-old.

Britain Is About to Nationalize Its Railways Again.

Britain’s House of Commons has approved the first significant public service reform introduced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government, less than two months after his election victory. The Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill, aimed at renationalizing the country’s railways, passed its third reading and will proceed to the House of Lords.

The Labour Party government is facing criticism from the Conservative opposition, which governed from 2010 until their heavy defeat in a July 4 snap election. The Conservatives argue that the move prioritizes socialist ideology over cost-efficiency.

Transport Secretary Louise Haigh, who led the bill through the Commons, claims the overhaul will reduce the chaos, delays, and disruptions plaguing passengers. She argues that the establishment of Great British Railways is pivotal in creating a unified railway system, combining rail track and train operations under one public entity.

Junior transport minister Simon Lightwood says Labour is also considering introducing a pay review body for public sector rail workers to streamline the process of satisfying union pay demands and reduce strike-related disruptions.

The post-war socialist government nationalized much of Britain’s rail network in 1948. By the 1960s, over half of the country’s railway stations were closing down, with privatization commencing in the 1990s.

Kamala Campaign Recruits Strategist from Britain’s Far-Left Labour Party.

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign is recruiting Deborah Mattinson, a former strategy director to Britain’s far-left prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer. Mattinson will head to Washington, D.C., to brief the Harris campaign on Starmer’s Labour Party’s victory in Britain’s July 4 snap election, which returned them to power after 14 years in opposition.

Mattinson’s approach focused on persuading traditional Labour voters, who had abandoned the party over its embrace of mass migration and woke ideology, to return to the fold. Harris, who previously advocated far-left policies such as banning fracking, decriminalizing illegal border crossings, and defunding the police, likely hopes a similar rebrand will boost her appeal among workers in key swing states.

Mattinson’s recruitment forms part of a broader collaboration between Labour and the Democrats. Starmer’s closest advisers have already met with Harris’ team, and many Labour politicians attended the Democratic National Convention (DNC)—despite British populist leader Nigel Farage previously being attacked for attending the RNC.

THE INTERNATIONAL LEFT.

“Labour is one of the only Western parties that have recently won, or look likely to win, from the center left,” explained Matthew McGregor, a former Labour digital director and Obama strategist.

“For Democrats following British politics, they have been intrigued by the speed [with] which Labour has gone from the [Jeremy] Corbyn days to being in power now. It’s really got people’s attention.”

The British media already believes Harris is copying Starmer’s intentionally “boring” presentation to avoid turning off middle-of-the-road voters.

Corbyn, the previous Labour leader, was much more openly left-wing than Starmer, who presented as moderate. However, in a warning for American independents who believe Harris is now moderate, Starmer is governing from the authoritarian left now he has power.

However, Starmer likely won on July 4 mainly because voters were no longer willing to vote for the Conservative Party after over a decade of broken promises on immigration. Starmer actually won fewer votes on July 4 than Corbyn did in 2019, with a historically low share of the popular vote and a lowered turnout.

Jobless Migrants Costing UK Over $11.1 BILLION Per Year.

A record number of jobless migrants in the United Kingdom are costing the country at least £8.5 billion (~$11.14 billion) annually. Around 1.68 million migrants are either looking for work or are classed as “economically inactive.”

Government Office for National Statistics (ONS) data suggests that the 2024 jobs figures represent the highest migrant joblessness rate since 2012. When social services, healthcare, transport, and other costs are considered, estimated costs to taxpayers could be far higher than £8.5 billion pounds, skyrocketing to as much as £20.3 billion (~$26.6 billion) a year.

Robert Bates, research director at the Centre for Migration Control, says the new leftist Labour government should stop handing out long-term visas when so many migrants are not working.

“This is the very definition of a Ponzi scheme, and we will only compound the problem if we do not change course soon,” he said.

Britain has seen unprecedented illegal and legal migration in recent years, with net immigration running at 764,000 in 2022. This is significantly straining the housing supply. To alleviate the problem and help build new homes, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner wants the country bring in even more migrants on supposedly “temporary” visas.

Other Western nations are also dealing with significant unemployment among their migrant populations. In Sweden, migrant unemployment is often several orders of magnitude above native-born Swedes. Migrants also account for around 80 percent of all welfare fraud in the country.

Meanwhile, the Danish Finance Ministry published a report noting that migrants from at least 24 different Muslim-majority countries make no net contribution to public finances.

Britain Suspends Arms Sales to Israel.

Britain’s far-left government is suspending a portion of its arms sales to Israel, alleging a “clear risk” that they could potentially be utilized in ways that violate international humanitarian law. In a statement to Parliament on Monday, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the suspension will affect 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel.

The suspension targets supplies that might be used in the ongoing conflict in Gaza against Hamas, but some exports, such as parts for F-35 fighter jets, will continue.

“It is with regret that I inform the House [of Commons] today that the assessment I have received leaves me unable to conclude anything other than that for certain UK arms exports to Israel, there does exist a clear risk that they might be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian law,” Lammy said.

“We recognize, of course, Israel’s need to defend itself against security threats, but we are deeply worried by the methods that Israel’s employed, and by reports of civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure particularly,” the Labour Party politician added.

According to Gaza’s Hamas-controlled Health Ministry, more than 40,000 Palestinians have died in the conflict over the past ten months.

IMPLICATIONS.

British arms exports make up less than one percent of Israel’s total arms purchases, so the move is unlikely to have a significant impact on the course of the war. It is likely intended mainly for domestic consumption, with Muslims in Britain, generally loyal to Labour, turning away from the party over Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s insufficient support for Gaza.

Several Labour politicians, including a member of the then-Shadow Cabinet, lost their seats to pro-Gaza independents in the July 4 snap election. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has been filmed telling a council of Muslim elders she owes her parliamentary seat to their support and promising to recognize Palestinian statehood.

British cities, in particular the hyper-diverse capital of London, where only 36.8 percent of residents were classed as White British in the latest census, have been regularly disrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023.

Top Politician Boasts: ‘Palestinian-born Doctor Prioritized Me Due to My Ceasefire Vote.’

Jess Phillips, a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in Sir Keir Starmer‘s government and a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Labour Party, has described how Palestinian doctors rule the roost in Birmingham, England’s second city. She said she was given preferential treatment by one of them because she voted in favor of supporting a ceasefire in Gaza just weeks after the Hamas terror raids against Israel in October 2023, which killed around 1,200 people.

Phillips, tasked with “Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls” in Starmer‘s government—despite having trivialized mass sexual assaults by Muslim migrants in Cologne, Germany—said she had “seen better facilities, health facilities, in war zones, in developing countries” when she sought socialized medical care at a Birmingham emergency department recently. However, she was soon bumped to the front of the line.

“I got through because of who I am,” Phillips said, tacitly acknowledging that politicians do not have a clear idea of how the National Health Service (NHS) operates for ordinary citizens because they receive special treatment.

“Also, the doctor who saw me was Palestinian, as it turns out. Almost all the doctors in Birmingham seemed to be,” she continued. “He was sort of like, ‘I like you. You voted for a ceasefire.’ [Because of that] I got through quicker,” she boasted, seemingly not seeing an issue with foreign doctors allocating state healthcare based on patients’ positions on foreign wars.

Phillips previously told Richard Tice MP, of Nigel Farage’s Reform Party, to stop sharing footage of Muslim rioters in Birmingham and questioning why they were not being aggressively policed like white anti-mass immigration protesters. She appeared to justify the Muslim rioters’ actions, saying they believed “racists were coming to attack them.”

Kamala Is Copying ‘Boring’ Election Strategy of New, Far-Left Prime Minister — UK Media.

British media is praising Kamala Harris for following left-wing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer‘s election strategy: “exploit hostility towards your opponent, stay vague on policy, and keep saying it’s time for change.” London’s Evening Standard agrees with former President Donald J. Trump that Harris and her running mate Tim Walz were “boring” during their set-piece interview with CNN‘s Dana Bash, breaking “no new policy ground”—but argues this is a good thing.

“[B]oring is good if you are anxious not to scare away voters. That’s what Sir Keir’s Labour found in its campaign against the exhausted Conservatives when it won with an overarching message emphasizing change,” the newspaper says.

Starmer, whose party ousted the Conservatives in a July 4 snap election after 14 years in opposition, sought like Harris to portray itself as moderate, outlining few policies. Following his ascent to power, the Briton quickly implemented radical policies not in his manifesto (election platform), such as freeing thousands of prisoners early and stripping winter fuel allowances from most pensioners. He is also alluding to imminent tax rises.

Harris, similarly, offered few hints about the policies her administration would impose, downplaying past support of banning fracking, defunding the police, and decriminalizing illegal border crossings in her CNN interview.

Several sympathetic news outlets tried to spin Harris‘s bland and substance-free interview performance as a positive. For instance, the Daily Beast ran an article titled ‘It’s Actually a Good Thing That Kamala Harris’s CNN Interview Was So Dull,’ and the Guardian praised her for “turn[ing] a much-hyped first interview as nominee into a soon-to-be-forgotten pit stop along the campaign trail.”

Fag Fight: Farage Goes to War Over Leftist Govt’s Cigarette Ban Plan.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has slammed a proposed ban on smoking outdoors at pubs, arguing it could have significant consequences for regular patrons and taxpayers.

Speaking at the Westminster Arms pub in central London, Farage labeled smokers as “heroes of the nation” due to the significant tax revenues generated from tobacco sales.

“I’ve been coming here for 30 years,” he said, arguing that many customers prefer drinking outside because they can smoke. According to Farage, the government has not fully considered the ramifications of such a ban.

Farage’s comments come amid ongoing discussions over expanding the existing indoor smoking ban to include outdoor areas such as beer gardens, university campuses, and sports grounds.

Leftist Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, speaking separately, claimed that smoking-related deaths are preventable and that the government would make decisions to mitigate these deaths.

The prior Conservative government was also radically anti-smoking and had aimed to prevent the sale of tobacco products to individuals born after January 1, 2009. Labour has indicated plans to reintroduce similar measures after the July election, which halted the proposal.

Farage has also criticized such a proposal, contending that such regulations drive tobacco sales into the illegal market. He cited Australia as an example where increased taxes have purportedly led to a rise in criminal activity related to tobacco sales.

New Zealand introduced the same type of smoking ban but later reversed it to recover lost tax revenue.

Indoor smoking has been banned in the UK since 2007, and the National Health Service (NHS) has claimed the ban has led to positive health outcomes; it has also coincided with the massive decline of pubs nationwide.

Muslim Man Gets Just 6 Months in Jail For Violently Assaulting Women Who Refused to Wear the Hijab.

A Muslim man in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to less than a year in prison after violently attacking three women in the city of Bradford for not wearing traditional Muslim clothing and wearing makeup, slamming the head of one woman against a car dashboard. Muhammad Hassan was sentenced to just six months in prison, suspended for two years. The attack took place May 25 at a gas station in Bradford, where the victims had stopped for fuel.

Captured on CCTV, the 26-year-old’s assault began when he spotted the three women at the Prince of Wales Service Station on Harrogate Road. Hassan, who knew the women, had previously spoken out about their appearance and called them derogatory terms such as “slags” or “prostitutes.”

Hassan grabbed the driver, slamming her head against the dashboard, before assaulting the other two women. One victim was punched in the head, while another was struck, leaving them with swelling and bruises. Prosecutor Ayman Khokhar described the incident as motivated by sexist attitudes and noted that Hassan’s behavior was “extremely abusive and violent.”

Defense attorney Fuad Arshad argued that Hassan believed the women were partly responsible for a marriage ending but acknowledged his actions were unjustified. Judge Colin Burn condemned excuses for the violence as “utterly inadequate” and emphasized the victims’ vulnerability.

Hassan’s brief sentence lies in contrast to the harsh sentences given to anti-mass migration protesters this month following the stabbing deaths of three young girls in Southport and the subsequent arrest of a teen born to migrant parents. Disparities in detainment have led to accusations of two-tier policing and two-tier justice, as some were sentenced to years in prison for as little as shouting at police.

City of London Balks at Kamala Presidency, With Many Preferring Trump.

Top bankers in Britain’s City of London are quietly hopeful that former president Donald J. Trump will be re-elected in November. They believe his economic policies will be far more beneficial to capital markets than a Kamala Harris presidency.

Despite some concerns over Trump’s protectionist stance on some industries and views on the Ukraine war, some in the City see advantages in his laissez-faire finance approach.

Speaking anonymously, a senior U.K. financial lobbyist noted that a Trump presidency might lead to a less restrictive regulatory environment, potentially boosting financial flows across the Atlantic.

The genuine concern in the City is a potential Kamala Harris presidency. Her economic plan includes targeting big businesses, which could be less favorable for the financial sector than Trump’s pro-business stance.

Under Trump, the City also benefited from appointments of industry veterans to key regulatory positions, like Steven Mnuchin at the Treasury and Christopher Giancarlo at the CFTC. This trend could continue, benefiting the financial sector.

A key opportunity for the City would be the inclusion of financial services in a U.S.-U.K. free-trade agreement, a possibility under Trump but unlikely under President Joe Biden or a Harris administration.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already signaled a willingness to strengthen U.K.-U.S. financial ties, regardless of who leads the U.S. And with Trump’s recent support for cryptocurrencies, the crypto industry in London sees potential benefits, despite his previous skepticism.

Trump has promised to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve and has earned millions of dollars of cryptocurrency donations throughout the 2024 presidential campaign.
