Jamie Raskin Says He’ll Introduce Legislation To Disqualify Trump From Ballot.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has announced he’s drafting legislation in collaboration with other Democrats, including Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) aimed to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the November presidential ballot. The move directly responds to a unanimous ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which maintained Trump’s eligibility to run for office in Colorado and other states.

The proposed legislation seeks to leverage section three of the 14th Amendment, asserting that individuals who’ve committed insurrection should be disqualified from holding office. “The House of Representatives already impeached Donald Trump for participating in insurrection by inciting it. So, the House has already pronounced upon that,” Raskin said during a Sunday appearance on CNN.

On Monday, the Supreme Court overturned a decision by Colorado’s state supreme court that disqualified Trump from the Presidency, citing the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause. In the unanimous decision against Colorado, the justices wrote: “We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But States have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 concerning federal offices, especially the Presidency.”

While the Supreme Court’s ruling ended Democrat efforts in several states to bar Trump from the presidential ballot, Raskin and his Democrat co-sponsors believe his legislation is an alternate legal pathway to end the presumptive Republican nominee’s eligibility. The National Pulse has previously reported that some Congressional Democrats are also considering refusing to certify the 2024 election results should former President Trump recapture the White House.

U.N. Human Rights Chief Lectures America on Discrimination.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, demanded that the United States undertake efforts to ensure a “non-discriminatory” presidential election this year, noting concerns voiced by the U.N. Human Rights Committee about specific state-level elections laws last year.

According to the U.N. bureaucrat, issues like partisan gerrymandering and state laws restricting mail-in voting — as well as voter I.D. requirements — undermine American voting rights. Turk urged federal and state lawmakers to implement the committee’s recommended safeguards.

Turk’s comments came amid the re-election bid by former President Donald Trump, whose 2020 election loss to current President Joe Biden was mired in controversy. The U.N.’s human rights chief emphasized policies like non-discriminatory suffrage, equality, and universality during his address to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. “In a context of intense political polarization, it is important to emphasize equal rights and the equal value of every citizen’s vote,” Turk stated.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights has a history of trying to intervene in the affairs of member states. As previously reported by The National Pulse, the commissioner lashed out at France for banning headscarves ahead of the 2024 Olympics. The U.N. commission has also argued that minors are capable of consenting to sex and demanded that anti-transgender activism be criminalized.

Biden Campaign Co-Chair Claims Deporting Illegals Will Harm America.

Democratic Texas Representative Veronica Escobar claimed there would be dangerous economic repercussions for deporting illegal immigrants. Appearing Friday on CNN Newsroom With Jim Acosta, the co-chair of President Joe Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign criticized former President Donald Trump for calling for the deportation of illegal immigrants.

“Democrats have been willing over the decades to not just address border security as a whole, but also to address our workforce needs and to make sure that we remain a country of immigrants,” Rep. Escobar told Acosta before adding: “Immigration is good for us economically.”

Escobar called former President Trump’s pledge to deport illegal immigrants “horrific” before claiming Trump wants to “take us back to an era where people feared being in their own country simply because they belong to a minority group.” The Biden campaign official insisted that “it is impossible to deport every undocumented person in this country.”

Illegal immigration has increased at an alarming rate under the Biden government. President Biden’s initial acts in office included repealing several Trump-era border policies, such as the Muslim travel ban and the Border Wall project.

The ongoing border crisis has become a top issue heading into November’s presidential election. Polling has consistently indicated voters overwhelmingly believe Trump is best suited to end the border invasion.

Massive Labor Union Endorses ‘Uncommitted’ Over Joe Biden.

The largest labor union in Washington state — the United Food and Commercial Workers — with a membership exceeding 50,000, has endorsed an ‘uncommitted’ stance for next month’s Democratic presidential primary. Union leaders cited concerns regarding President Joe Biden’s lack of political strength and his support for Israel‘s war against Hamas in Gaza as reasons for the endorsement choice.

Following an executive board vote on Wednesday, the union called Biden “an ally to workers” but expressed a lack of confidence in defeating the presumptive Republican nominee — former President Donald Trump — in the November election. According to the union’s statement, their recommendation to vote ‘uncommitted’ reflects a belief that this approach could strengthen the position of the eventual Democratic nominee.

Meanwhile, the union has pledged support for whoever may be the eventual Democratic Party nominee — promising to dispatch resources, staff, and members to campaign in any swing state to support their bid to defeat Trump. This move, though, underscores an implicit discontent within the Democratic base, as some factions remain uncertain about backing President Biden for re-election.

The divisions among Democrat rank-and-file were on display earlier this week in Michigan, a state with a significant Muslim and Arab American community opposed to Israel’s war against Hamas. About 13 percent of Democratic primary voters chose ‘uncommitted’ over Biden. Because of the solid anti-Biden showing in Michigan, at least two ‘uncommitted’ delegates will be present at the Democratic National Convention in August. The Washington union applauded the Michigan voters who opted for ‘uncommitted,’ urging Biden to endorse a lasting ceasefire and halt U.S. funding for the conflict.

Democrats Say They Won’t Certify Trump Victory in Congress.

Democrats who have spent the last three years labeling former President Donald Trump and other Republicans who questioned the 2020 presidential election results as “insurrectionists” now claim they’ll refuse to certify a potential Trump victory in November.

The Atlantic reports:

[Attorney Jason] Murray and other legal scholars say that, absent clear guidance from the Supreme Court, a Trump win could lead to a constitutional crisis in Congress. Democrats would have to choose between confirming a winner many of them believe is ineligible and defying the will of voters who elected him. Their choice could be decisive: As their victory in a House special election in New York last week demonstrated, Democrats have a serious chance of winning a majority in Congress in November, even if Trump recaptures the presidency on the same day. If that happens, they could have the votes to prevent him from taking office.

In interviews, senior House Democrats would not commit to certifying a Trump win, saying they would do so only if the Supreme Court affirms his eligibility. But during oral arguments, liberal and conservative justices alike seemed inclined to dodge the question of his eligibility altogether and throw the decision to Congress.

The apparent contingency plan comes amid sliding approval ratings for President Joe Biden and mounting indications Trump could win a second term in 2024.

The crux of the plan is based on the recent Colorado Supreme Court ruling that the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause bars Trump from the presidential ballot. If the U.S. Supreme Court does not clearly rule against the Colorado court’s decision, it leaves open the door for Congressional Democrats to attempt to block the certification of the 2024 presidential election on the grounds that Trump is ineligible under the insurrection clause.

If Congressional Democrats won a House majority and were to refuse to certify the 2024 presidential election, it would set off a potential constitutional crisis. With the Electoral College winner thrown out, the Constitution indicates the election of the President would be thrown to the House of Representatives. Thus far, senior House Democrats have refused to say if they would certify a Trump victory in November. Some have said they would only do so if the Supreme Court explicitly affirmed his eligibility to serve.

Democratic officials have prosecuted and incarcerated thousands connected to the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021, while concurrently accusing Republican attempts to legally overturn what they consider potentially fraudulent 2020 results as another form of insurrection. The lawfare campaign against Trump has also aimed to prevent his candidacy in the 2024 election through several federal and state prosecutions.

Obama Treasury Sec: ‘Economy Booming, Americans Just Don’t Know It.’

A newly released working paper by former Obama government Treasury Secretary Larry Summers asserts that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) may underestimate Americans’ financial pains from rising interest rates. “The economy is booming and everyone knows it — except for the American people,” Summers states.

The elevated interest rates enacted by the Federal Reserve have increased expenses such as buying a house or carrying credit card balances. Summers’ paper, titled “The Cost of Money is Part of the Cost of Living,” explores the disconnect between what he claims are positive economic indicators and the public’s persistingsour mood‘ on the Biden economy.

Summers notes that until 1983, the government’s CPI measurement incorporated housing prices via mortgage expenses and would rise as those rates increased. However, the current CPI calculation measures housing costs based on rent prices, a change Summers argues might only partially capture the financial strain on Americans.

While lauding the efficacy of the current CPI measurement, Summers emphasizes that understanding people’s economic well-being necessitates incorporating interest rates into the calculation. Should the pre-1983 formula be used today, Summers contends that 2022 inflation would be around 15 percent instead of 9.1 percent, thus painting a starker picture of the economic reality for many households.

Allies of President Biden, like Summers, are pressuring Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell to slash interest rates. They hope reduced rates will stimulate the economy and Biden’s re-election chances. However, Powell and several members of the central bank’s board of governors have signaled they are hesitant to reduce rates before the 2024 election.

Biden’s Home State Strikes Down 10 Day Early Voting Law.

A Delaware Superior Court has ruled the state’s law allowing ten days of early voting and permanent absentee voting is unconstitutional. Judge Mark H. Conner stated in a 25-page opinion: “The enactments of the General Assembly challenged today are inconsistent with our Constitution and therefore cannot stand.”

The court’s decision states that Article 5, Section 1 of the state constitution specifically proscribes that a “general election shall be held biennially on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November.” The Delaware Board of Elections argued the phrase “election shall be held” refers to the ‘last’ day in which a vote can be cast.

This decision could have broad implications, given ongoing legal challenges to state voting practices that critics say are in contravention of state laws and constitutions. Joe Biden, whose home state is Delaware, has leveled criticism at states like Georgia over their election regulations — calling their voter I.D. law “Jim Crow 2.0.” Georgia allows for three weeks of early voting.

The case was brought by Delaware state Senator Gerald Hocker and Michael Mennella — an inspector for the Delaware Department of Elections, represented by the Public Interest Legal Foundation. They noted the ruling is just the latest court decision stipulating states must follow their own constitutions. A New York state appeals court recently held noncitizen voting in municipal elections to be unconstitutional.

The ruling is Mennella and the Public Interest Legal Foundation’s second victory over Delaware’s voting laws in less than two years; previously, they succeeded in challenging the constitutionality of the state’s universal vote-by-mail and same-day voter registration laws.

Kamala Says U.S. Govt Will Give College Kids Taxpayer Cash to Register Voters.

Vice President Kamala Harris has declared that the United States government will compensate college students for registering voters and working as ‘nonpartisan’ poll workers. The funding for this initiative will come from the federal work-study program.

“We have been doing work to promote voter participation for students,” Harris said during the announcement, adding: “And for example, we have under the federal work-study program now allows students to get paid through federal work-study, to register people, and to be nonpartisan poll workers.” The Vice President said the Biden government was focused on activating young leaders to strengthen communities through increased voter engagement.

The Department of Education, which manages the federal work-study scheme, has confirmed the program’s funds are aimed at supporting students with their everyday college expenses. However, these benefits are to be earned through a work-study job. A policy memo issued by the Department of Education announced that voter registration employment would fulfill the work-study job requirement. “The Department is today clarifying that FWS funds may be used for employment by a Federal, State, local, or Tribal public agency for civic engagement work that is not associated with a particular interest or group,” read the memo.

The move by the Biden government is just the latest in a series of dubious decisions that critics fear are intended to impact the 2024 presidential election outcome. The National Pulse previously reported that a Biden appointee at the Department of Homeland Security has led the legal efforts to remove Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential ballot.

Biden Follows Trump To U.S. Southern Border Today.

President Joe Biden is heading to the border city of Brownsville, Texas, on Thursday. The move comes after former President Donald Trump announced last week he would be visiting Eagle Pass, Texas, on the same day. The move by Biden underscores his vulnerability regarding the handling of the border crisis — which a majority of Americans say has turned into an all-out invasion.

Earlier on Monday, former President Trump blasted Biden on social media for the murder of Laken Riely, a 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia. Riley was killed Thursday by Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who entered the U.S. in 2022. The Georgia murder has put a human face to the cost of the Biden government’s open-border policies

Polling for President Biden, the 81-year-old Democrat incumbent, has been dismal on the subject of immigration. February’s Harvard/Harris poll indicates that 62 percent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track. Just 35 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of immigration. The Monmouth University poll for February shows that 6 in 10 Americans believe immigration is now a very serious problem. A majority of Americans currently support the construction of a border wall for the first time since Monmouth began asking the question in 2015.

The National Pulse previously reported that Hispanic voters are increasingly turning on Biden over his poor handling of the border crisis. An overwhelming number of Hispanic voters say they disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration and would like to see tighter border controls put in place.

Obama Staffers Say Biden’s Age, Mental State Are a ‘Very Real Issue.’

Top aides who served under former President Barack Obama say voter concerns regarding President Joe Biden’s age, health, and cognitive state are a very real problem for the 81-year-old’s re-election effort. Now hosts of the popular progressive podcast Pod Save America, Obama speechwriters Jon Favreau and Jon Lovett argue Biden has visibly declined compared to just a few years ago.

“If you watch Joe Biden speak, oftentimes he sounds frail, and he sounds more frail than he used to, even in 2019 and 2020,” Favreau noted before adding: “The voice sounds frail, and he shuffles more because of the arthritis in his back.”

Lovett contends, however, that the White House staff needs to get Biden out in public more, even if it means risking increased gaffes. The two Obama speechwriters agreed that the lack of public and press events is more likely to fuel voter concerns regarding Biden’s age than the gaffes.

“I’m sure that going out there means more missteps … more gaffes that start circulating, but if you don’t view Biden being out there as a net positive, then the argument he shouldn’t be running is right,” Lovett said. Favreau, in agreement with Lovett, added: “When world events seem like they are overtaking him and he’s not out there enough forcefully, that’s what’s getting people concerned.”

Another former Obama White House aide echoed the concerns of Favreau and Lovett. Former Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer recently told the Courier that Biden’s age has become a “very real issue.” He said: “If Biden can’t assuage, particularly among his voters from 2020, then I don’t think he can win the election — so in some ways, it’s the crux for his campaign.”
