In a recent interview with CNN, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow feigned concerns about former President Donald J. Trump‘s potential actions if he is reelected in November. Maddow claimed she fears Trump could implement detention facilities not only for illegalimmigrants but also for those he views as disloyal or disagreeable—including herself.
Maddow’s assertions arise from Trump’s comments in May, where he did not rule out the construction of detention facilities for illegalimmigrants as part of his proposed increased deportation efforts. However, Maddow extrapolated these remarks to a broader—and unfounded—concern. “I’m worried about the country broadly if we put someone in power who is openly avowing that he plans to build camps to hold millions of people, and to ‘root out’ what he’s described in subhuman terms as his ‘enemy from within’,” she toldCNN‘s Reliable Sources newsletter.
The MSNBC host inferred that such facilities might not be limited to illegalimmigrants, posing a potential threat to various left-wing media figures, activists, and Democrat lawmakers who pushed an unprecedented lawfare campaign against the former Republican president.
When asked if she felt personally targeted for being a prominent critic of Trump on television, Maddow acknowledged a sense of vulnerability. Maddow accused those who believe Trump would only target illegalimmigrants of having a “little bit of head-in-the-sand complacency”. She suggested that some political figures might be trying to align themselves with Trump to ensure their safety.

Editor’s Notes
Behind-the-scenes political intrigue exclusively for Pulse+ subscribers.
The campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) has threatened prosecutions for CNN staff if they collude to keep their candidate off the presidential debate stage on June 27th.
Kennedy has already filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), while his campaign issued a statement on Tuesday explaining:
CNN’s published debate criteria require that “a candidate’s name must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold.” CNN is holding Kennedy to this requirement but is not requiring Presidents Biden and Trump to meet this requirement by claiming they are the “presumptive nominee” of a political party.
The FEC has now made clear that the phrase “presumptive nominee” is “not in the FEC’s debate regulation,” and therefore does not exempt CNN from the prohibition on excessive campaign contributions. As the Commission on Presidential Debates explains, “Until the conventions take place, we don’t know who the official nominees will be.”
This means that CNN, and every member of CNN who is participating in planning, executing, and holding this debate, is at risk of prosecution, as happened to Michael Cohen, for violating campaign finance laws. This risk is now acute given that any further violation would be knowing and willful, and thus could carry with it serious jail time.
CNN and its staff are on clear notice, especially given the damning evidencethat the Biden campaign has openly demanded that Kennedy be excluded from the debates and Trump received assurances from CNN that Kennedy would be excluded.
Kennedy is already on the ballot in enough states to surpass the 270 electoral college votes threshold and is inching closer to the polling requirement to make the debate stage.

The consolidation of the corporate media entities continues apace, with CNN set to feature Associated Press (AP) content on its website for the first time in nearly 15 years. CNN staffers fret that the move, pushed by the network’s CEO Mark Thompson, is a prelude to layoffs as the corporate news organization moves away from original reporting.
The CNN-AP deal is the latest in a line of schemes to revive the network’s collapsing audience. In late May, it was revealed the network logged its lowest primetime ratings since 1991. According to Nielsen data, the network’s 8 PM to 11 PM programming from May 13 through May 19 attracted only 83,000 viewers among the coveted demographic of 25-to 54-year-olds.
Since taking over the corporate news network late last year, Mark Thompson has bounced between cost-cutting measures and revenue schemes seemingly aimed to accelerate CNN’s descent into irrelevance. The National Pulse reported in January of this year that the network is considering ways to make people pay to watch news clips on their cell phones as people increasingly turn away from cable news. In February, Thompson announced drastic cuts to staff salaries, including some of their top newsroom talents.
MEDIA MONOPOLIES.
While CNN’s content deal with the AP is unlikely to push the audience needle in the network’s favor, the move does highlight an ongoing concern regarding consolidation in American media. As media ownership becomes increasingly concentrated, the political bias of the corporate media will likely become more amplified—as will their ability to censor conservative and populist voices. Even more concerning, local and independent outlets are not immune from the Democrat’s media monopoly.
Billionaire globalist George Soros is trying to gain a controlling interest in Audacy, America’s second-largest radio broadcaster. A successful takeover would give Soros a 40 percent stake in the financially distressed company’s senior debt. This sizable stake could grant him significant control over the company as it resurfaces from bankruptcy.
In addition to the Audacy play, Soros has invested millions in buying Hispanic radio news stations and popular podcast platforms. In addition to the Soros investments, Democrat dark money groups like Arabella Advisors have also jumped into the media game, making significant investments in state and local newspapers and radio ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Elie Honig — a former federal prosecutor, CNN legal analyst, and associate of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg — says the hush money prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump “was an ill-conceived, unjustified mess.” While the former prosecutor turned corporate media pundit claims the jury’s verdict should be respected, he acknowledged that the legal theory behind Bragg’s prosecution “contorted the law in an unprecedented manner.”
In a lengthy essay for New York Magazine‘s Intelligencer, Honig blasts Bragg and Democrat-aligned JudgeJuanMerchan for what he contends was a politically motivated and dubious prosecution. The CNN legal analyst also criticized Judge Merchan for not properly addressing his political conflicts with the case.
MERCHAN’S CONFLICTS.
“The judge donated money… in plain violation of a rule prohibiting New York judges from making political donations of any kind — to a pro-Biden, anti-Trump political operation,” Honig writes, adding that the funds were explicitly “earmarked for ‘resisting the Republican Party and Donald Trump’s radical right-wing legacy.'”
The National Pulse has reported extensively on the personal and political conflicts of Judge Merchan, who refused to recuse himself from presiding over the case. Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, a political fundraiser, has taken millions of dollars from nationalDemocrats who raised campaign funds off of the prosecution. Additionally, Representative Daniel Goldman, a client of Loren Merchan, helped prepare the prosecution’s star witness, Michael Cohen, for his cross-examination.
‘ENTIRELY UNPRECEDENTED.’
Honig additionally writes that “[t]he charges against Trump are obscure, and nearly entirely unprecedented.” He contends that Bragg overreached in using a federal campaign finance violation as a predicate crime to resurrect the falsifying business record charges, which were beyond the statute of limitations.
“In fact, no state prosecutor — in New York, or Wyoming, or anywhere — has ever charged federal election laws as a direct or predicate state crime, against anyone, for anything. None. Ever,” Honig argues, adding: “Even putting aside the specifics of election law, the Manhattan DA itself almost never brings any case in which falsification of business records is the only charge.”

Defense attorney Randy Zelin voiced his belief that the prosecution in former President Donald Trump’s hush money case failed to meet its evidentiary burden during a segment on CNN Tuesday morning. The network’s Kate Bolduan interviewed Zelin ahead of closing arguments in the case.
“The burden of proof is an important one to remind everyone: It’s on the prosecution, right? They need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he commit[ed] — that Donald Trump broke the law. And you think after listening to all of this, you think they fell short. How?” Bolduan asked Zelin.
“They fell way short, because let’s start with reasonable doubt,” the legal analyst replied. “What is reasonable doubt? And it’s not simply a doubt based upon reason. Any time a human being needs to make an important decision in life, if you have enough information, for example, doctor says you need open heart surgery. ‘Doc, go ahead and schedule. I don’t have a reasonable doubt.’ Conversely, if I say ‘I appreciate it, but I need a second opinion, I need more information,’ that is having a reasonable doubt. There is reasonable doubt all over this case.”
Zelin further questioned the absence of key figures such as Keith Schiller and Allen Weisselberg in the proceedings. He also raised skepticism about the credibility of Michael Cohen, noting that Cohen had financial and personal motivations.
“Where is Keith Schiller? Where is Allen Weisselberg? How did Michael Cohen get away with stealing $30,000? Hold a pity party for him — made $4 million on this, thought he’d be chief of staff. He’s a fixer! If the plumber comes to my house to fix my leak, I could be home. That doesn’t mean I know how he’s doing it and what it’s taking to be fixed,” Zelin said.

CNN has logged its lowest primetime ratings since 1991 as corporate news networks continue struggling to retain viewers. According to data published by the market research firm Nielsen, the network’s 8 PM to 11 PM programming from May 13 through May 19 attracted only 83,000 viewers among the coveted demographic of 25 to 54-year-olds.
Meanwhile, Fox News secured over 186,000 viewers among the key age demographic during the same primetime slot, while MSNBC attracted 111,000 viewers. Overall, CNN’s weekly viewership totaled just 494,000, substantially lower than Fox News’s 2 million viewers and MSNBC’s 1.1 million.
Mark Thompson, who took over as CNN’s CEO late last year, has struggled to improve the network’s viewership ratings. The former New York Times and British news executive replaced Chris Licht, who was fired as the network’s CEO last June. Facing rising costs and falling revenue, Thompson announced a round of salary cuts at the network in February.
CNN’s primetime lineup, which is comprised of “AC360” with Anderson Cooper at 8 PM, “The Source with Kaitlan Collins” at 9 PM, and “CNN NewsNight” hosted by Abby Phillip at 10 PM, has notably lacked significant programming and direction under Thompson’s leadership. Additionally, the network’s increasing anti-Trump bias has alienated a large swath of American viewers who support the former Republican president. Among CNN’s primetime talent, Collins has notably displayed a lack of basic political knowledge.
In response to the dismal ratings, a CNN spokesman claimed the network has actually seen growth among the 25-54 age group year-over-year, particularly when including Erin Burnett‘s 7 PM show and Anderson Cooper’s midnight rebroadcast.

Former President Donald J. Trump has now accepted a fourth presidential debate invitation. Additionally, Trump challenged Joe Biden’s vice-presidential nominee, KamalaHarris, to debate his eventual running mate at Virginia State University in August.
Late on Friday, Trump posted on Truth Social that he had agreed to attend a 2024 presidential debate hosted by NBC and the Spanish-language network Telemundo prior to the November election. Earlier this week, Trump accepted a third debate invitation from Fox News. Trump’s 81-year-old Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, has thus far only agreed to two debates — hosted by CNN and ABC, respectively.
Trump and Bidenabandoned the three presidential debates governed by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) after Biden challenged Trump to two independent contests. The former Republican President quickly accepted the 81-year-old Democrat incumbent’s challenge — agreeing to both debates.
The former President agreed to a third debate with Fox News, challenging Biden to attend as well. The Biden campaign, however, has stated it will not appear on the network, claiming Fox News does not meet its debate criteria. Despite NBC not making the Biden campaign’s preferred debate host list, Telemundo is included. It is unclear whether Biden will accept the invitation as of late Friday.
Former President Trump has pushed for earlier and more frequent presidential debates. However, the CPD rejected his demand that the organization move up its debate timeline. Earlier on Friday, Frank Fahrenkopf, co-chairman of the CPD, said he believes Donald Trump “got rolled” by Joe Biden‘s camp when he agreed to just two presidential debates, earlier than usual in the election cycle and organized by leftist networks.
Wow, checkmate move by Trump to accept a debate invite from NBC and Telemundo. Can Biden, given his collapsing support with Latino voters, really say no here? Genius. pic.twitter.com/oOiFgipGQt

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria is urging Joe Biden to adopt Donald Trump’s immigration policies. “The whole system is broken, and Biden needs to confront that and say, you know, ‘We are going to have to reform the whole system,’” he said.
“I would wish he’d do something much more extreme,” Zakaria said. “Like, say ‘the old asylum system is dead. No one is coming in through that process. You have to apply from your home country.’”
When interviewer Margaret Hoover pointed out that this was the “Trump policy,” the CNN host stumbled over his words slightly but acknowledged she was essentially correct.
“Which was a Trump– and also the Mexico, let– you know, you have to be in Mexico to apply,” he said, referencing Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy.
“I think that’s all correct.”
Zakaria predicts adopting Trump’s policies will give Biden a better “political chance” in November. However, he also stresses the Trump policy is “the right policy, because the old asylum system is being gamed by millions of people.”
Immigration now ranks among inflation and the economy as one of voters’ top concerns. This includes among Democrats. Biden rates far below Trump in terms of his effectiveness on immigration and a range of other issues.
A majority of Americans believe Biden is actually encouraging illegal immigration to create a “permanent majority” for his party.

Joe Biden is in denial over how deeply unpopular his record on the economy has become. In a primetime interview with CNN, the 81-year-old Democrat incumbent appeared at first unaware, and then indignant, that voters consistently indicate they prefer former President Donald J. Trump to Biden on the economy.
“Voters, by a wide margin, trust Trump more on the economy,” host Erin Burnett toldBiden before listing potential reasons why his government is so unpopular. These include consumer confidence being at a near-two-year low, the cost of housing nearly doubling since Biden took office, and real income dropping when factoring in inflation. Burnett asked Biden, “Are you worried that you’re running out of time to turn [the economy] around?”
“We’ve already turned it around,” the 81-year-old Democrat insisted, appearing unaware of the poor economic data. He continued: “The polling data has been wrong all along.” Going beyond a blanket denial of voter sentiment, Biden proceeded to make several blatantly false assertions about the state of the economy prior to and during his White House tenure.
Biden insisted that inflation was already at 9 percent when he entered office. In reality, the inflation rate was at 1.4 percent when he was inaugurated. The inflation rate hit 9.1 percent a full 17 months into his term as President in June 2022.
Addressing job growth, Biden continued to peddle the long-debunked claim that he created over 15 million jobs. Labor market economists and other experts have repeatedly noted that Biden‘s claim relies on counting jobs that were recovered following the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, 9 million of those jobs had been lost during COVID-19.
Biden looks shocked as CNN host Erin Burnett reels off a list of stats detailing how bad the economy is. Biden claims he's already "turned it around" and that every poll showing Americans favouring Trump on the economy is wrong. Full report here: https://t.co/smaN0DjOVDpic.twitter.com/K2wTAwdrse

Manhattan advertising mogul Donny Deutsch claimed on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe‘ on Thursday that Donald Trump aims to exploit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to manipulate news coverage and will also unleash the military upon the American people, among other outlandish claims.
Deutsch, a regular show participant, suggested that if Trump wins the election, he will have the FCC report directly to him to manage news programs’ coverage. “He says what he’s going to do. What he’s going to do to your point, Joe, is have the FCC report to him so he will be able to control shows like this. He wants the FCC to report to him,” Deutsch said.
Pointing to a recent interview Trump gave to TIME magazine’s Eric Cortellesa, Deutsch also claimed, “He wants to bring the Insurrection Act back so he can turn military troops on his own people. He wants to weaponize, as you said, the Justice Department to go after his enemies,” Deutsch continued. He then bizarrely claimed that Trump “wants to put women on a registry in red states for abortion.”
WHAT TRUMP ACTUALLY SAID.
In January, Trump lashed out at CNN and NBC for refusing to cover his victory speech after the Iowa caucuses. However, he never suggested using the FCC to control the media. “NBC and CNN refused to air my victory speech. I think of it because they are crooked. They’re dishonest, and frankly, they should have their licenses or whatever they have. Take it away,” Trump said.
Deutsch’s allegations regarding Trump’s recent TIME interview are simply not true either. In the interview, Trump expressed his intention to use the military, mainly the National Guard, if possible, to go after and detain illegal aliens — not American citizens.
Writes Cortellessa: “For an operation of that scale, Trump says he would rely mostly on the National Guard to round up and remove undocumented migrants throughout the country. ‘If they weren’t able to, then I’d use [other parts of] the military,’ he says. When I ask if that means he would override the Posse Comitatus Act—an 1878 law that prohibits the use of military force on civilians—Trump seems unmoved by the weight of the statute. ‘Well, these aren’t civilians,’ he says. ‘These are people that aren’t legally in our country.'”
Furthermore, while he expressed his belief that it would be acceptable for states with anti-abortion laws to prosecute women who violate them, he never once made mention of a registry, let alone wanting to put women on one.
“More than 20 states now have full or partial abortion bans, and Trump says those policies should be left to the states to do what they want, including monitoring women’s pregnancies,” Cortellessa writes. “’I think they might do that,’ he says. When I ask whether he would be comfortable with states prosecuting women for having abortions beyond the point the laws permit, he says, ‘It’s irrelevant whether I’m comfortable or not. It’s totally irrelevant, because the states are going to make those decisions.'”
