Afghan Posed as Teen to Rape 13-Year-Old Girl.

A 28-year-old asylum seeker is on trial for allegedly posing as a teenager on Snapchat to groom and rape a 13-year-old schoolgirl, with DNA evidence reportedly linking him to the crime.

❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Abdul Khan, 28, is standing trial at Nottingham Crown Court facing nine charges, including rape, sexual communication with a child, and meeting a child following grooming, all of which he denies. Prosecutors say the asylum seeker posed as a 14-year-old named “Abs” on Snapchat and befriended a 13-year-old Nottingham schoolgirl who told him she was also 14.
📺 DETAIL: After exchanging messages, they met at a tram stop on May 14 last year, with the girl surprised that the Afghan’s appearance did not match the photos she had seen. Khan allegedly took her to Scout Wood Nature Reserve in Clifton and raped her. The teenager later disclosed the assault to her father, and forensic tests found DNA matching Khan on her school trousers. He was later arrested on a separate admitted charge of sexual communication with a child, and phone messages linking him to the victim were recovered. Khan told police he entered Britain in a lorry in 2015 and gave a false 2004 date of birth in his asylum claim. He denied the rape, and is being assisted in court by a Pashto interpreter at taxpayers’ expense.
🎯 IMPACT: The trial is just the latest to involve migrants taking advantage of and raping children in Western countries. While the British Labour government has announced plans to ban children under 16 from using social media under a curfew system, it remains to be seen whether that ban will be effective or easily bypassed.
