Under Mayor Muriel Bowser’s reign, Washington D.C. has seen homicides hit a 15-year high and shootings spike. Homicides in the national’s capital rose for a third consecutive year in 2020, pushing on 200 residents killed for the first time since the previous decade. The city’s total number of killings in 2020 was 198 – the deadliest year since 2004.
