Ron DeSantis’s wife, Jill “Casey” DeSantis, is set to take over the Florida governor’s faltering campaign after weeks of malaise and an inability to increase his poll numbers.
Mrs. DeSantis’s involvement in the campaign is believed necessary to counteract her husband’s “perceived aloofness and reluctance to embrace retail politics.”
Debbie Walsh, director at the Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers University, argues the former Golf Channel and CNN broadcaster will “humanize” her husband, as well as assist in ways Ron is not “as skilled or adept.”
But Jill’s involvement is nothing new if you ask Vanity Fair: “[Ron] DeSantis consults [Casey] on everything from hiring decisions and media appearances to policy positions and wardrobe choices. She’s been known to write thank-you cards and make phone calls on his behalf.”
In the video below, you can see Jill “Casey Black” DeSantis – another name she has gone by – promoting the neo-liberal Club for Growth. At the time of the clip, the Club for Growth had just endorsed her husband, Ron DeSantis, for Congress. The pair were married at Disney World in 2009.
