Vice President JD Vance told reporters Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t quite know how to get out of the war,” as President Donald J. Trump prepared to confront him in a direct call scheduled for 10 AM. ET.

Vance, speaking aboard Air Force Two, said Trump would ask Putin if he is “serious” about ending the conflict in Ukraine, stressing that America will not “spin its wheels” in a futile negotiation.

“The talks have been proceeding for a little while. We realize that we’re at a bit of an impasse here,” Vance said. “I think the president’s going to say to President Putin, look, are you serious? Are you real about this?”

He described the state of negotiations as uncertain, noting that Putin “has made some concessions” but added, “We feel like we’re at a point where we’re hitting an impasse, and that’s why the president is talking to him on the phone.”

“I’m not sure that Vladimir Putin has a strategy himself for how to unwind the war,” Vance said. “I think, honestly, that President Putin, he doesn’t quite know how to get out of the war… I think the president would agree with that.”

Vance confirmed Trump’s willingness to disengage if the peace process proves unserious: “We’re still more than open to walking away,” he said. “We want to see outcomes.”

He said the U.S. was pleased to see the two warring parties “put a real peace proposal on the table” and begin to engage in face-to-face discussions. While Putin himself did not attend last week’s meeting in Turkey, both Russian and Ukrainian delegations met and reportedly agreed to a large-scale prisoner swap.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has agreed to meet with Putin, accused the Russian leader of cowardice for sending a “low-level” delegation, saying Putin was “afraid.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sense of urgency, telling The National Pulse that the president has grown weary and frustrated with both sides of the conflict.

Vance said Trump is ready for the moment: “I was just on the phone with him. I know he’s looking forward to it… I think he’s the right guy to negotiate for the country.”

Currently, the object is opposite the Earth on the other side of the Sun. While most scientists have concluded that 3I/ATLAS is a comet comprising carbon dioxide ice, Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb continues to suggest that the object could be an extraterrestrial “mothership” sent by an intelligent civilization.

As evidence of his claim—which some critics suggest is more of a publicity stunt than a serious proposal—Loeb notes the interstellar object’s unusual trajectory given its size, and claims the object’s path, taking it close to Mars, Venus, and Jupiter, may be more than “extremely rare coincidences.”

Late Thursday, Loeb wrote in a post on Medium, “If you want to take a vacation, take it before [October 29], because who knows what will happen?” He elaborated on the potential for the object to use the Sun’s gravitational pull to accelerate or slow down, referencing the Oberth effect, a principle in physics that allows a spacecraft to generate more energy when its engine is fired at higher speeds.

“If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system,” Loeb posits. He speculates: “In that case, the Oberth maneuver might apply to the mini-probes it releases at perihelion towards Solar system planets.”

NASA’s lead scientist for solar system small bodies, Tom Statler, has dismissed Loeb’s theory, stating, “It looks like a comet. It does comet things. It very, very strongly resembles, in just about every way, the comets that we know.” However, Statler did acknowledge that the object has “some interesting properties that are a little bit different from our solar system comets.”

Loeb has admitted that the likelihood of 3I/ATLAS being technological in origin is slim, but emphasized the importance of evidence-based science. “As of now, 3I/ATLAS appears most likely to be a natural comet,” he wrote in a blog post. “But the remote possibility of an Oberth maneuver must be considered seriously as a black swan event with a small probability, because of its huge implications for humanity.”

Security officers opened fire on a U-Haul truck that accelerated toward them outside the U.S. Coast Guard base in Alameda, California, during an anti-ICE protest, in a dramatic incident caught on video. The events unfolded near the end of a day-long demonstration against federal immigration enforcement operations staged at the base.

The truck reversed quickly toward officers guarding the bridge to Coast Guard Island, despite instructions to stop, resulting in a volley of gunfire. The truck then began accelerating forward. Photographer Rick Villaroman, who was at the scene, said, “He just hit the gas and sped towards them. And that’s when they opened fire. About 20 to 30 rounds.”

Witnesses said the vehicle struck two bystanders before the masked driver stopped briefly, appeared to check his phone, and then drove off. According to Villaroman, the driver abandoned the truck nearby after it had been parked outside the base for most of the day. The Coast Guard said the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to security personnel. Notably, U-Haul trucks have been used in multiple terror attacks and attempted terror attacks in the U.S. and Canada in recent years. Most notably, an Islamic State jihadist admitted to the U.S. from Uzbekistan on a Diversity Immigrant Visa, used a U-Haul to murder eight people on a crowded bike path in Lower Manhattan in 2017.

The confrontation in Alameda follows a series of violent incidents targeting immigration enforcement personnel across the country. Federal officials have warned of a sharp rise in attacks against Immigration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and facilities. In one of the most serious recent cases, federal prosecutors charged a group of self-described Antifa members with terrorism after a sniper attack on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. Investigators allege the suspects coordinated the ambush using encrypted apps and targeted agents with gunfire and explosives.

In Chicago, local police have faced criticism for reportedly ordering officers to “stand down” rather than assist ICE agents surrounded by protesters, prompting outrage from the city’s police union. Meanwhile, federal data show a massive increase in assaults on ICE officers compared with last year, according to a July statement from DHS.

This past March, Ford was forced to abandon his first attempt to derail trade talks, the imposition of an electricity tariff on the U.S., in less than 24 hours as well.

Referring to 9/11, Mamdani, choking back tears, said, “I want to use this moment to speak to the Muslims of New York City; I want to speak to the memory of my aunt who stopped taking the subway after September 11th because she did not feel safe in her hijab.”

The bulk of the 2,977 people murdered by radical Islamic terrorists on 9/11 were killed in New York City, with many observers suggesting that Mamdani’s focus on his aunt’s comparatively minor hardship suggests he is out of touch. A Ugandan immigrant, Mamdani only became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018.

May Lau, a doctor subject to a lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) for administering “gender transition” drugs to children, has surrendered her medical license. Previously, a so-called Rule 11 agreement ensured that Lau ceased practicing medicine while the case was ongoing. Now, a press release published by Paxton’s office has confirmed that she is permanently barred from “experimenting on children in Texas” from now on.

“Doctors who permanently hurt kids by giving them experimental drugs are nothing more than disturbed left-wing activists who have no business being in the medical field,” Paxton said. “May Lau has done untold damage to children, both physically and psychologically, and the surrendering of her Texas medical license is a major victory for our state. My case against her for breaking the law will continue, and we will not relent in holding anyone who tries to ‘transition’ kids accountable.”

The legal proceedings against Lau continue as she faces accusations of violating state law by administering cross-sex hormones to minors illegally.

The Pentagon on Friday announced the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford and its Carrier Strike Group to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. This will provide support for military operations against drug cartels in the Caribbean. Currently, the Ford—the world’s largest aircraft carrier and the largest warship ever constructed—is in port in Split, Croatia. Previously, the strike group had been deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean in support of U.S. military operations in the Middle East.

“In support of the President’s directive to dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) and counter narco-terrorism in defense of the Homeland, the Secretary of War has directed the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group and embarked carrier air wing to the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR),” the Pentagon’s Assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs, Sean Parnell, wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He added: “The enhanced U.S. force presence in the USSOUTHCOM AOR will bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere. These forces will enhance and augment existing capabilities to disrupt narcotics trafficking and degrade and dismantle TCOs.”

The deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford and its Carrier Strike Group to the Caribbean comes as President Donald J. Trump continues efforts to disrupt and destroy Central and South American cartel operations in the region. Earlier on Friday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced military forces had conducted another strike on a suspected drug smuggling vessel in the Caribbean, describing the operation as a “lethal kinetic strike” against the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. U.S. forces have also begun to strike targets in the Pacific Ocean, near Marxist-led Colombia.

In recent weeks, the United States has executed a significant buildup of military assets in the Caribbean, with more than 6,000 sailors and Marines on eight warships currently in the region. The addition of the Ford and its strike group would increase the Navy’s manpower by over 10,000, with a significant increase in the Air Force’s presence as well.

The New York Knicks have sent a cease-and-desist letter to Democratic Socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani after his campaign used a modified version of the team’s logo in a political ad. The ad, aired during the Knicks’ season opener, replaced the word “Knicks” with “Zohran” in the iconic orange and blue logo.

The team’s legal representatives argued that the ad could “mislead the public into believing that the Campaign is affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by, or in some way connected with the Knicks.” A spokesman for the Knicks stated, “The Knicks want to make it clear that we do not endorse Mr. Mamdani for Mayor, and we object to his use of our copyrighted logo. We will pursue all legal remedies to enforce our rights.”

While polling shows Mamdani, a Ugandan Muslim immigrant, leading Andrew Cuomo, the former state governor, heading into the final weeks of the campaign, continued misteps, as with the Knicks logo use, could leave undecided voters seeing the 34-year-old New York Assemblyman as too inexperienced to lead the city. In another inexplicable campaign flub in June, Mamdani’s proposal for city government-owned grocery stores fell apart after it was revealed that he didn’t understand the city budget. Among the errors was Mamdani’s confusing private investment with public investment and not understanding the budgetary impacts of  “waived tax revenue” rather than “expenditure.”

The National Pulse reported earlier this week that Mamdani shared a photo on social media last Saturday in which he appears with radical Islamist Imam Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. In the post, Mamdani, who follows the extreme Twelver sect of Shia Islam, praised Wahhaj as one of America’s foremost Muslim religious scholars and a pillar of the local community.
