A number of Ron DeSantis supporters have taken to social media to announce they will vote for Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before they unify behind Donald Trump, despite the DeSantis camp pitching the Florida Governor as a facsimile of Trump with less “baggage” and more “effective” administration.
“Since I have been reliably told for months by Trump supporters that they would write him in even if DeSantis or anyone else won the GOP primary, it’s good to have permission to support RFK in the general if DeSantis doesn’t win the GOP primary,” wrote DeSantis booster Scott Morefield, a blogger for the Townhall.com website. Townhall is owned by the Salem Media Group, which also owns the pro-DeSantis RedState, Twitchy, and other legacy “Conservative Inc” blog sites.
Other DeSantis supporters were quick to agree with Morefield, raising questions as to whether or not they are, in fact, Republican voters at all. Many pro-DeSantis activists on social media are anonymous, newly-created accounts.
“You nailed it Scott. These are the new rules,” said one.
“As long as Trump is not supporting the primary winner, neither am I if it’s him,” seethed another.
“They’re both Liberals, so I might as well go for a honest liberal who can’t be easily corrupted,” concurred a third.
Others, however, weren’t so keen on the new tactic of embracing the pro-abortion, anti-Second Amendment RFK Jr, with user John Ament replying, “We all knew you were a liberal.”
RJK Jr. has won some admirers on the right for his opposition to the medical establishment – including DeSantis himself – he is a fundamentally left-wing politician who supports greater gun control, and shared an article in favor of repealing the Second Amendment altogether. RFK Jr. has stated he would not support abortion restrictions after three months because it is “always the woman’s right to choose” whether to kill her unborn baby.
RFK Jr. is also on record as saying he believes he would take more votes from Trump than Biden as a third-party candidate.
Since I have been reliably told for months by Trump supporters that they would write him in even if DeSantis or anyone else won the GOP primary, it’s good to have permission to support RFK in the general if DeSantis doesn’t win the GOP primary. This is how it works, right?
