Tonight’s Briefing
Foreign Policy
1. Trump Declares Strait of Hormuz Reopen, Israel ‘PROHIBITED’ From Bombing Lebanon.
The president claims a “great victory” as Iran commits to reopening the strait — and tells Israel its Lebanon campaign is over.
■ Pulse Points  /  Make Lebanon Great Again?
What Happened —  President Trump declared a “great victory” in the Middle East, with Iran committing to “fully” reopen the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Trump also declared Israel is “PROHIBITED” from carrying out further attacks in Lebanon by the U.S.
The Detail —  The Strait of Hormuz is a key supply route for energy and fertilizer, and its closure by Iran caused fuel shortages and price rises worldwide. Trump insists the reopening is not tied to the Lebanon ceasefire, but announced on Truth Social that Israel “will not be bombing Lebanon any longer.” Israel had pushed for weeks of additional strikes against Hezbollah targets.
Key Quote —  “This deal is not tied, in any way, to Lebanon, but we will, MAKE LEBANON GREAT AGAIN!” – President Donald J. Trump
Impact —  The reopening could stabilize global oil markets and ease a jet fuel crisis threatening hundreds of thousands of flight cancellations. Oil and gas prices have already dropped, but the situation remains fragile, with claims the Lebanon ceasefire is already being violated. Trump responded negatively to a belated UK-France proposal for a multinational passage mission, writing that he “TOLD THEM TO STAY AWAY.”

Religion · Data
2. Young Men Are Driving a Surprise Revival in Religious Faith.
Gallup finds young men now surpass young women in viewing religion as “very important” for the first time in 25 years.
■ Pulse Points  /  Bastion of Faith
What Happened —  A Gallup poll from 2024-2025 shows that 42 percent of young men now consider religion “very important,” a significant leap from 28 percent in 2022-2023, surpassing young women, who remain steady at 30 percent.
The Detail —  This marks a reversal of a long-standing trend. The change is largely concentrated among young Republicans, while religious participation among young Democrats has stayed the same or declined. Experts suggest social isolation, political identity, and the search for community may be driving the shift. The gender gap reversal is mainly limited to people under 30.
Key Quote —  “With the recent surge in their attachment to religion, young men have returned to the high point of their expressed religiosity of the past 25 years. By contrast, women of all age groups and older men are at or near their historical lows.” – Gallup
Impact —  Positive trends have been seen in the Roman Catholic Church in the United States, Britain, and France, which recorded a record number of adult baptisms in 2026.

3. Newsom PAC Spent Over $1.5m Boosting Sales of His Memoir With Donor Cash.
Two-thirds of the governor’s book sales were bulk purchases by his own political action committee.
■ Pulse Points  /  Young Man in a Hurry (to Buy His Own Book)
What Happened —  Gavin Newsom’s Campaign for Democracy Committee spent $1,561,875 purchasing copies of his memoir, Young Man in a Hurry, and distributing them to donors who contributed any amount to his PAC.
The Detail —  The book distribution accounted for approximately two-thirds of the memoir’s total print sales, with about 67,000 copies sent to donors. The book appeared on the New York Times best-seller list but was marked with a dagger indicating a mix of organic and bulk sales. The $1.5 million was easily the single largest expense for Newsom’s federal PAC in Q1 2026.
Flashback —  The memoir glosses over Newsom’s controversial relationship with a 19-year-old college student when he was the 39-year-old Mayor of San Francisco. However, it does acknowledge that he destroyed the marriage of his deputy chief of staff by having an affair with the man’s wife.

Corruption
4. You Owe $18 Million to Cover for Congressional Sexual Harassment.
Congress quietly settled nearly 300 workplace disputes with taxpayer funds — and the names remain hidden.
■ Pulse Points  /  The Slush Fund
What Happened —  Between 1997 and 2019, Congress used over $18 million in taxpayer funds to settle nearly 300 workplace disputes, including claims of sexual harassment, through the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights (OCWR).
The Detail —  Reforms in 2018 mandated that lawmakers repay settlement costs, but critics argue the system still lacks transparency, as the names of lawmakers involved are often hidden. House Oversight has moved to subpoena records of past settlements.
Key Quote —  “A friendly reminder that House Oversight subpoenaed the records of the congressional sexual harassment slush fund and we will be releasing them. Maybe we’ll see more resignations, you never know.” – Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL)
Impact —  The 2019 report is back in the spotlight following allegations against Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who has suspended a bid for Governor and resigned from Congress amid a slew of accusations of sexual harassment and rape.
● ● ●
Surveillance
5. Senate Passes Brief Extension of FISA Surveillance Powers After Fight Among House GOP.
Twenty Republican holdouts forced a 10-day stopgap after derailing Speaker Johnson’s 18-month extension.
■ Pulse Points  /  Ten Days to Figure It Out
What Happened —  The House passed a 10-day extension of Section 702 of FISA early Friday after overnight votes in which 20 Republican lawmakers demanding reforms derailed a longer extension. The Senate passed the stopgap unanimously the same morning.
The Detail —  Section 702 allows U.S. intelligence agencies to monitor non-citizen communications abroad without a standard warrant. House Republicans want reforms including warrant requirements to prevent abuses against U.S. citizens. Speaker Johnson pushed for an 18-month extension, but conservative opposition forced the shorter stopgap.
Flashback —  Trump backed the long-term extension despite FISA having been weaponized against him during the Russia collusion investigation. He wrote on Truth Social: “I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country!”

Crime
6. D.C. Sees Plunge in Murders, Carjackings, Under Tough-on-Crime Regime.
Murder rates on track for a historic low — down from 274 under Biden to a projected 42 this year.
■ Pulse Points  /  The Pirro Effect
What Happened —  Washington, D.C., is on track to record approximately 42 murders this year, the lowest since at least 1930 — a dramatic decrease from 274 murders two years ago under Biden. Carjackings have dropped 44 percent.
The Detail —  The decline is attributed to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who has prosecuted offenders much more aggressively than Biden-era predecessors, seeking capital punishment in the most severe cases. Federal law enforcement and the National Guard have been deployed to compensate for local police staffing cuts by the Democrat-dominated city council. A policy of not charging juveniles as adults has been reversed, pushing the arrest-to-offense ratio for carjackings from 25 percent to 58 percent.
Impact —  The Trump administration’s changes have created a significantly more hostile environment for criminals. However, a surge in killings in recent days, attributed to “interpersonal violence between groups,” suggests there is still work to do.

7. Air Canada is Suspending Flights to New York.
Jet fuel costs have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict, making the JFK route uneconomic.
■ Pulse Points  /  Grounded
What Happened —  Air Canada will suspend flights from Toronto and Montreal to JFK Airport between June 1 and October 25, citing unsustainable jet fuel costs driven by the Iran conflict. The airline will continue serving LaGuardia and Newark.
The Detail —  Jet fuel prices have roughly doubled during the Iran conflict, reaching $4.32 per gallon, up from $2.50 before the war. Airlines including Lufthansa and Delta have already announced cost-cutting measures. Although oil prices have shown some recent decline after the Strait of Hormuz was declared reopened, uncertainty remains.
Key Quote —  “As jet fuel prices have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict and some lower profitability routes and flights are no longer economic, we are making schedule adjustments accordingly.” – Air Canada spokesman

8. Afghan Migrant Charged With Raping Rescue Animals.
A 19-year-old Afghan caught on camera abusing sheep and goats at a French educational farm near Marseille.
■ Pulse Points  /  Caught on Camera
What Happened —  A 19-year-old Afghan migrant was arrested in France for allegedly raping sheep and goats at an educational farm near Marseille. The animals were found tied up and injured, prompting farm owners to install cameras that captured the acts.
The Detail —  Police arrested the suspect on April 10 after catching him in the act. DNA evidence linked him to multiple abused animals. He arrived in France in November 2025 and was awaiting residency. He has been ordered held in pre-trial detention ahead of a trial scheduled for June 22.
Flashback —  The incident comes weeks after a case in Italy involving migrants who allegedly sexually abused a kitten in Rome, sparking major protests.

Migrants Now Account for 20% of School Students in This European Country.

New data has revealed a huge demographic shift among students being enrolled in Spanish elementary and secondary schools, with Hispanic students, particularly Colombians, driving the trend.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: New data from Spain’s Education Ministry shows that approximately 20 percent of the country’s elementary and secondary students come from migrant families.
📺 DETAIL: Official data from the Spanish government has revealed that the number of students from migrant families has increased from 724,635 in 2014-2015 to 1,151,694 in 2024-2025. Hispanic students are the primary drivers of this growth. Enrolment of Hispanic students has surged by almost 115 percent. In particular, Colombian students saw a major 310 percent increase, rising from 27,957 to 114,723 over the past decade. Notably, 30.6 of migrant students are now Latin American. African student enrollment has slowed to an increase of 18.8 percent over the same period. Overall, Moroccans remain the largest migrant group in Spain’s education system, though the number enrolled appears to be declining.
🎯 IMPACT: At present, Spain hosts 47.4 percent of Europe’s entire Hispanic migrant population. The demographic shift highlights Spain’s growing role as a destination for Hispanic migrants. However, thousands have been taking advantage of the European Union’s open borders Schengen Area to travel to other countries in the bloc, with Venezuelan and Colombian nationals being convicted of gruesome murders in EU member states as far away as Poland.
📺 FLASHBACK: These stats follow the far-left Spanish government’s decision to grant amnesty to a projected half a million illegal immigrants, many of them from the countries that experienced a large surge of enrollment. This decision has led to a collapse in local services across the country as municipal governments struggle to meet the demands of both residents and migrants. Notably, because there is no certainty as to the number of illegals in the country, the number who claim amnesty under the terms of the decision could exceed projections by hundreds of thousands.

Instagram Influencer Posts Image of Himself Urinating on Austin Metcalf’s Grave.

An Instagram user with a significant following sparked outrage by posting an image appearing to show him desecrating the grave of white teenager Austin Metcalf, while calling for the release of his murderer, Karmelo Anthony.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: An Instagram account with over 10,000 followers posted an image appearing to show the black account owner urinating on the grave of Austin Metcalf, a white student athlete who was murdered last year by black student athlete Karmelo Anthony. The post, which may have been AI-generated, also called for Anthony’s release.
📰 DETAIL: Instagram user @onebigrichfolkz74, an amateur rapper, captioned the image, “I woke up and chose violence,” and “FREE #KarmeloAnthony.” The post quickly gained significant attention online, with more than 10,000 likes within hours. The controversy comes amid reports that the Metcalf family has received escalating death threats and harassment following Anthony’s murder conviction and 35-year prison sentence. Anthony was found guilty of fatally stabbing the 17-year-old during a dispute at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. Prosecutors argued that eyewitness testimony and video evidence contradicted Anthony’s self-defense claim, a position ultimately accepted by the jury. Legal experts note that while physically desecrating a grave can violate Texas law, the legal implications of AI-generated or digitally altered images depicting such acts are less clear, though related harassment or civil claims could still arise.
🎯 IMPACT: The post garnered over 10,000 likes in less than 12 hours, sparking widespread outrage and calls for legal action. A number of AI-generated copycat posts were also shared. Under Texas law, desecrating a grave is a serious offense, and even creating realistic images of such acts could potentially lead to criminal charges or civil claims for emotional distress.

Trump Switches Director of National Intelligence Nomination to Jay Clayton.

President Donald J. Trump has announced his decision to nominate Jay Clayton to lead U.S. intelligence, switching from the previously announced Bill Pulte.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump has nominated Jay Clayton for Director of National Intelligence. The President received pushback from the GOP over his previous nominee, Bill Pulte.
📺 DETAIL: On Thursday, via Truth Social, President Trump announced his intention to nominate Jay Clayton, the current U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, for Director of National Intelligence. This follows the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard, who is leaving her role to support her husband in his ongoing battle with cancer on June 30. “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position,” said Gabbard in her resignation letter at the time.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “I am pleased to announce the Nomination of very Highly Respected Jay Clayton… the current United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, to be the next Director of National Intelligence and, importantly, to serve in my Cabinet. Few people anywhere in the Legal Community are respected at the level of Jay. I encourage the United States Senate to confirm Jay as soon as possible.” – President Donald Trump.
🎯 IMPACT: Having been nominated by the President, Clayton will need to be confirmed by the Senate. Resistance from Senate Republicans is believed to have killed Trump’s previous attempt to install Bill Pulte, Director of U.S. Federal Housing, as DNI. The change at ODNI is the second replacement nomination made by the President this month. Earlier in June, he announced his decision to nominate Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche for Attorney General. Blanche was appointed as interim head of the Department of Justice following the departure of Pam Bondi.

DATA: Musk’s ‘Restore Britain’ Puppet Party Set to Hand Victory to the Left in Crunch Election.

Labour Party candidate Andy Burnham is leading the polls in a crunch British parliamentary by-election (special election), with the Elon Musk-backed Restore Britain party likely to siphon enough votes from Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party to hand him the victory.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester for Britain’s governing Labour Party, is leading in the polls ahead of a crucial parliamentary by-election (special election) in the Makerfield constituency (electoral district). Burnham’s five-point advantage over Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party is likely due to the presence of the Elon Musk-backed Restore Britain party, notionally led by ex-Reform politician Rupert Lowe, drawing votes away from Reform.
📰 DETAIL: The poll, conducted by More in Common and the UCL Policy Lab, shows Labour at 45 percent, Reform UK at 40 percent, and Restore Britain at eight percent. Other parties, such as the formerly governing Conservatives and the far-left Green Party, are polling well below five percent. Notably, Restore Britain recently declared itself “the enemy of populism” in general and of President Donald J. Trump in particular, despite selling itself to voters as a hard-right party.
🎯 IMPACT: Should Burnham win a seat in the House of Commons, he is expected to challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the Labour Party’s leadership and, by extension, the office of Prime Minister. He is expected to win such a contest, pulling the party further to the left and canceling planned immigration restrictions.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Elon Musk’s spite party is tossing the keys to 10 Downing Street to Andy Burnham because Nigel Farage hurt his feelings.” – The National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam
👀 FLASHBACK: Ahead of the 2024 general election, in which Lowe was returned to Parliament as a Reform candidate, he complained about the notionally right-wing Conservatives standing in his Great Yarmouth constituency and potentially peeling enough votes away from him to let Labour win. “Sad to see these attempts to split the vote and allow a Labour candidate in for Great Yarmouth,” he wrote in a social media post directed at former Conservative politician David Campbell-Bannerman, who was campaigning door to door for the Conservative candidate. “Look at the odds and polling David – the Tories WILL lose. Every leaflet you deliver is a leaflet for the Labour candidate,” Lowe argued.

DATA: White Working-Class Boys Are Britain’s Most Disadvantaged Group.

New figures have revealed that white working-class boys are falling behind in Britain’s education system, making them the most disadvantaged group in the country.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: White working-class boys are the most disadvantaged group in the United Kingdom, according to an official report.
📺 DETAIL: A report by the Independent Inquiry into White Working Class Educational Outcomes, an ongoing investigation commissioned by Star Academies, a multi-academy trust, and led by Public First, a policy research firm, reveals that white working-class (WWC) students are nearly twice as likely to be absent from school. WWC students are also two and a half times more likely to be severely absent from school; that is, missing over 50 percent of lessons. Additionally, 34 percent of WWC students require special education assistance, compared to just 19 percent among other student demographics. White working-class kids get amongst the worst outcomes in the education system,” Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson admitted, adding: “I think I do have to be honest in saying that we do have some big ideas about things we want to do to make this work better… But if we had all the answers, we would have solved it by now.” The report emphasized the struggles of WWC boys in particular, reaffirming a long-standing trend of WWC boys falling behind in educational attainment.
🎯 IMPACT: The recent figures support comments made by Suella Braverman, Shadow Education Secretary for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, last month. “The drive to pander to minority communities has completely undermined and pushed aside white working-class boys and their families,” said Braverman. Experts have warned that the taboo around addressing the challenges faced by WWC students, especially WWC boys, could lead to socio-economic and political instability. The figures cast further doubt on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ideology, which has largely neglected to address or resolve problems and disparities facing WWC students.

Scottish ‘Axe Girl’ Vindicated as Migrant Convicted of Assault.

A Bulgarian migrant has been found guilty of assaulting a Scottish girl who went viral last year after being filmed brandishing a knife and axe to defend herself, resulting in her being denigrated by corporate media figures and leftists who refused to believe her account of the migrant’s abusive actions.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Ilia Belov, a 22-year-old Bulgarian migrant, was found guilty of assaulting a 12-year-old girl and behaving in a threatening manner towards four girls aged between 12 and 14 in Dundee, Scotland. The girl went viral after being recorded by the migrant while brandishing an axe and knife to defend herself, with the corporate media suggesting she was racist and dismissing her claims that she was being harassed as so-called misinformation.
📰 DETAIL: The incident occurred in August 2025 in the Lochee area, where Belov made inappropriate sexual remarks to the girls, leading to a confrontation. His sister, Nadjedzha Belova, also pleaded guilty to assaulting a 13-year-old girl during the same incident. Video of the incident went viral, showing the girl brandishing a knife and a small axe while Belov filmed the encounter. Several prominent politicians and journalists suggested the girls’ claims of sexual harassment were lies. Former Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf stated on X that the claims were “bulls**t”, while the media outlet Unherd published an article at the time mocking the two girls, and saying that a fundraiser for them will be spent on “machetes and Irn Bru,” a popular Scottish soda. Police also tried to cast doubt on the girl, releasing a statement warning the public of “misinformation” after arresting her for brandishing a weapon in public. Police also initially claimed that there was no evidence that Belov had sexually harassed the girls.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “He kept saying, ‘Come here, sexy. I will show you how to have a good time.” – Victim testimony
🎯 IMPACT: The conviction vindicates the girls, proving not only that they were telling the truth, but that politicians, corporate media, and even the police were wrong to dismiss their testimony. The case comes after years of similar denials of wrongdoing by immigrants and minorities, most infamously Pakistani-heritage child rape gangs targeting and exploiting white girls across Britain for decades.

Pentagon Unveils More UFO Files, Including Dozens of New Documents and Videos.

The Pentagon has unveiled additional materials on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs).

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: The Pentagon released a new set of documents, videos, and audio recordings related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), marking the third such disclosure in recent weeks. The materials include 53 documents, 10 images, six videos, and three audio recordings from agencies such as the CIA, FBI, NASA, and the Pentagon itself.
📺 DETAIL: The materials, posted on the agency’s UFO website, feature eyewitness footage collected by the FBI, including reports of glowing orb-like objects moving silently through the sky in coordinated formations. Among the most notable cases are a July 2025 “Northeastern Orb Sighting” and an October 2024 incident dubbed “Orbs Over the Pond,” in which witnesses described a plasma-like sphere hovering for roughly 45 minutes before disappearing. Newly released files also include accounts from five federal law enforcement agents who reported unusual aerial phenomena in the western United States in October 2023, with some claiming to have seen smaller orbs emerge from larger glowing objects. The disclosure package further contains records from a CIA scientific panel convened in 1952 and 1953, which concluded that flying saucers posed no physical threat but recommended debunking UFO reports to reduce public fascination and potential exploitation by foreign adversaries. The latest releases stem from an executive order signed by President Donald J. Trump earlier this year requiring greater disclosure of UFO-related information, a move Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency.
🎯 IMPACT: The release is part of a broader government effort to address public curiosity and concerns about UAPs while fostering trust through the declassification of related materials.

DNI Gabbard Exposes Global Biolab Network, Biden-Era Cover-Up.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has declassified evidence confirming U.S. government funding for over 120 biolabs worldwide, including in Ukraine, confirming prior reporting by The National Pulse.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Outgoing Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard has revealed evidence of U.S. taxpayer funding for over 120 biolabs in more than 30 countries, including Ukraine, which are potentially at risk due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
📰 DETAIL: The disclosure highlights that these biolabs have been involved in research with hazardous pathogens, including gain-of-function research, with minimal oversight. “Until now, evidence regarding the full existence and funding of these laboratories had been knowingly withheld from the American people,” confirmed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) press release accompanying the disclosure, stressing: “The information surrounding the existence, history, locations and funding of these US funded biolabs has been intentionally covered up by powerful people falsely, claiming that they do not exist and accusing anyone who says otherwise to be foreign assets and traitors to America.”
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Despite the obvious potential for catastrophic global impact research on dangerous pathogens in biolabs can have, politicians, so-called health professionals like Dr. [Anthony] Fauci, and entities within the Biden administration’s national security team lied to the American people about the existence of U.S.-funded and supported biolabs,” said DNI Gabbard.
🔎 PREVIOUSLY ON THE NATIONAL PULSE: In March 2022, The National Pulse exclusively revealed that deleted web pages confirmed that Barack Obama, while still an Illinois Senator, helped negotiate the construction of a Ukrainian biolab in Odessa, specifically designed to handle what official U.S. government documents described as “especially dangerous pathogens.” The facility, built through a U.S. Department of Defense cooperative agreement with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, was cleared to work with bacteria and viruses from the top two pathogenic groups, including Ebola.
🕵️ MORE FROM THE PULSE: Weeks later, The National Pulse exclusively reported that Hunter Biden’s investment firm, Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners, was a lead financial backer of Metabiota, a pandemic-tracking company that collaborated directly with Ukrainian laboratories on isolating deadly pathogens, funded in part by Obama’s Department of Defense. Metabiota received an $18.4 million government grant, with a portion specifically itemized for Ukraine research.
🎯 IMPACT: The biolab revelations raise significant ethical, financial, and security concerns, prompting new DNI guidance directing increased Intelligence Community collection on these overseas facilities, which is already yielding new details on clinical trials underway at several labs. The Trump administration aims to end dangerous research practices that threaten global health and security.
👀 FLASHBACK: In May 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to halt federal funding of gain-of-function research, recognizing its potential threat to public safety.

Trump Condemns ‘Very Dishonorable’ Iran for Leaking False Settlement Terms.

President Trump criticized Iran for allegedly leaking false terms of a settlement and condemned an Iranian drone attack on Indian ships.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump accused Iranian negotiators of leaking false terms of a settlement related to the Iran war to the media in a Truth Social post on Friday, claiming the leaked terms do not match the actual agreement.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith. AMAZING! Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST!” – President Trump
🎯 IMPACT: The accusations could derail a “great settlement of the war with Iran” announced by President Trump on Thursday, after he had called off major strikes on the Islamic Republic announced earlier in the day. Trump had predicted the settlement would be signed off, likely by Vice President J.D. Vance in Europe, in “the next few days,” but this now appears to be in jeopardy.
📰 DETAIL: Trump’s statement followed an attempted drone attack on Indian ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a major transport route for the world’s energy and fertilizer supplies. Heavy disruption of shipping through the strait has had a profound impact on the world economy, spiking inflation.

UK PM Starmer Admits He Must ‘Turn Things Around,’ But Refuses to Step Down.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer conceded that his premiership is going badly in an interview with the BBC following multiple resignations from the Ministry of Defence.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has admitted that his premiership is going badly following the resignation of his Secretary of Defence. He has also been under fire for refusing to admit Britain has a problem with two-tier policing amid the Henry Nowak scandal.
📺 DETAIL: In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Britain’s de facto broadcaster, Starmer conceded that he needed to “turn things around” following a slew of ministerial resignations and disastrous results for the Labour Party in local elections in May. Despite this, the Prime Minister refused to stand aside and vowed to fight any leadership challenge from within his own party. Prime Minister Starmer also criticized former Secretary of Defence John Healey, accusing him of seeking “easy answers” and being unable to accept “trade-offs” after he resigned on Thursday in frustration at the government’s refusal to fund the military. Hours after Healey’s resignation, Al Carns, a junior defense minister and potential Labour leadership contender, also announced his resignation, expressing similar concerns. In his own resignation letter, Carns accused the government of “asking our Armed Forces to operate in a more dangerous world on a budget written for a calmer one.”
💬 KEY QUOTE: “I recognize that I’ve got to turn things around. We had a very bad set of elections… I recognize that given where we are, I need to turn that around, and that’s what I intend to do.” – Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Friday.
🎯 IMPACT: The willingness of the Prime Minister to admit so openly that his own premiership is not going well shows that widespread dissatisfaction with his government has become unignorable. The Prime Minister’s comments are likely to embolden his rivals, such as Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, who is contesting the Makerfield parliamentary by-election (special election) to return to Parliament and challenge Starmer for the Labour leadership and, by extension, the office of Prime Minister.
📺 FLASHBACK: Since early May, the British government has been in crisis as an ever-growing number of Labour MPs, including several now-former ministers, including Cabinet secretaries, have called for Starmer’s resignation. The already unpopular government was plunged into crisis after Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party stormed to victory in the country’s local elections earlier that same month.
