The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has linked at least $2 billion of the $20 billion in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants the Biden government hid at an outside financial institution to Power Forward Communities, an environmental nonprofit group with ties to election denier Stacey Abrams. Established in 2023, Power Forward Communities represents a coalition of far-left organizations led by Rewiring America, where Abrams serves as senior counsel. The grant award is especially concerning as Power Forward Communities reported having only $100 in revenue when the Biden government approved the $2 billion in funding.
Last week, EPA administrator Lee Zeldin announced that he and his staff had discovered $20 billion in agency grants issued in the final days of the Biden government were “parked at an outside financial institution,” effectively limiting federal oversight of the money. With the help of DOGE, Zeldin and EPA staff were able to trace the money to the Biden EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund program. The revelation appears to confirm Republican concerns that the program was essentially used as a “green bank” by the Biden government, doling out grants to underwrite far-left nonprofits aligned with the Democratic Party.
“When we learned about the Biden Administration’s scheme to quickly park $20 billion outside the agency, we suspected that some organizations were created out of thin air just to take advantage of this,” Zeldin said in a recent interview, adding: “It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 was chosen to receive $2 billion. That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue.”
The $2 billion awarded to Power Forward Communities appears to have been earmarked for assisting homeowners in transitioning away from gas to electric stoves and installing EV chargers and solar panels.
