The State Department has issued a strong statement to those seeking immigrant visas following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, warning that “foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome” in the United States.
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau addressed the matter in a Thursday post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.”
He further added, “I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the [State Department] can protect the American people.”
The politically-motivated assassination occurred on Wednesday at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, where 22-year-old Tyler Robinson allegedly shot Kirk from approximately 200 yards away using a high-powered rifle. Kirk, 31, was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
