The former chairman of the White House’s COVID Task Force, Vice President Mike Pence, is set to announce his campaign for the Republican nominee for president next week in Iowa.
The former VP joins an increasingly crowded Republican race, especially given the recent entry of former New Jersey governor Chris Christie. Pence will fight against his former running mate, Donald Trump.
Pence led the United States’ COVID-19 response, alongside Health and Human Services Secretary, Alex Azar. Pence was also responsible for the infamous appointments of Anthony Fauci and Debbie Birx to the task force team.
Pence is likely to focus his fire on Donald Trump and January 6th, and is due to appear on a CNN town hall stage in order to do so.
Amongst Republicans, Pence currently enjoys two percent of support.
