Brian Wilson’s touring company and longtime publicist have filed to place the legendary, 81-year-old Beach Boys musician under conservatorship due to dementia. Wilson is the same as President Joe Biden, who was recently effectively deemed unfit for office by his own Department of Justice’s special counsel.
According to the filing, Wilson, who has a history of mental health issues, is reportedly suffering from a “major neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia).” Wilsion’s team is reportedly seeking the conservatorship to assist in his medical care, which they argue is incapable of administering himself.
“Mr. Wilson is unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter,” the filing states.
“The (proposed) conservatee does NOT have the capacity to informed consent to the administration of medications appropriate to the care and treatment of major neurocognitive disorders (including dementia.),” according to the filing.
“The deficits in mental function assessed…significantly impair the (proposed) conservatee’s ability to understand and appreciate the consequences of giving consent to the administration of medications for the care and treatment of major neurocognitive disorders.”
The court documents reveal that Wilson’s ability to provide informed consent for appropriate dementia-related treatments is significantly impaired. Medical professionals note severe impairments in his mental function, including great difficulty understanding and appreciating the implications of consenting to necessary medical care. The records reveal Wilson’s inability to attend court due to medical inability and highlight his struggles with fear, depression, and helplessness, along with increased difficulty in maintaining appropriate decorum in various situations.
A hearing is scheduled for April 26, 2024, to determine the need for a conservatorship.
