GOP Representative Bob Good (VA-5) was thrown out of an event in his district held at a pro-Trump store over the weekend, featuring his primary challenger, John McGuire, a member of the Virginia State Senate. The Virginia congressman has faced stiff backlash in his Virginia district ever since he endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the Republican presidential primary last May. DeSantis dropped out of the presidential primary after coming in a distant second place to former President Donald Trump in the Iowa Caucus in January.
In a video of Good interacting with the store’s owner, Karen Angulo, the congressman can be heard arguing with the store owner about whether he was invited to the event. Good also claimed he was there to support former President Donald Trump despite having endorsed DeSantis previously. Angulo pushed back, arguing Good was only there to disrupt an event featuring his primary opponent as the Congressman had not been formally invited to attend.
‘Embarrassing Behavior For a Sitting Member of Congress’
After several minutes of back-and-forth, Rep. Good relented and left the store while his opponent, State Senator John McGuire, spoke with supporters. Angulo was ousted as the chair of the Appopomatox County Republican Party by Good and his allies this past Saturday.
According to Angulo the congressman and several staffers proceeded to stand outside for nearly four more hours, stopping constituents as they tried to enter the McGuire event. At some point, one of the staffers with Rep. Good appears to have called 9-1-1 after they were confronted outside the store. An audio recording of the call reveals she told the dispatcher “…there’s some belligerent people out here getting in the congressman’s personal space.”
In a statement addressing the incident, Angulo said: “We invited our State Senator John McGuire as a special guest because John has been a supporter of President Trump and never wavered, unlike Bob Good.”
“After being told the night before that he was not welcome, Bob showed up uninvited and attempted to make the day about himself instead of President Trump,” continued Angulo, adding: “I repeatedly asked Bob to leave. Once he finally relented and left our store, Bob and his paid campaign staff stood out front for over four hours trying to block people from entering our store. The whole thing was very embarrassing behavior for anyone, let alone a sitting Member of Congress.”
BOB GOOD was kicked out of grand opening of a Pro-Trump store in VA-05.
