Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) – a supposed whisperer for the American far-left – has warned President Joe Biden that his continued support of Israel in its war with Hamas is costing him the progressive vote.
Khanna revealed the conversation, which took place when he was campaigning with the President in South Carolina, in an interview with POLITICO about the Biden campaign’s desperate attempts at damage control with Michigan’s Arab and Muslim community ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
“I said, ‘You’re losing progressives, you need to change,'” Khanna said. “He said, ‘Ro, I hear you. I understand. I understand that people are upset, and I am pushing Bibi [Netanyahu].'”
Khanna also reported that Biden’s recent claims of an imminent cease-fire between Israel and Hamas were an obvious attempt to woo back Arab and Muslim voters in Michigan and progressives across the country. “Nothing in politics is a coincidence,” he said. “This is happening because the president is hearing that a large part of his coalition wants this war to end.”
Anti-Biden sentiment among progressives and within Michigan’s Arab and Muslim communities — key constituents whose support Biden will need if he hopes to win the state in the election — has grown substantially. “There is a deep sense of hurt and loss, pain, grief among the Muslim and Arab American community and the progressive community,” Khanna said.
Biden has dispatched numerous campaign surrogates to Michigan — a state he hasn’t visited since February 1st — in an effort to ramp up outreach to Arab Americans and win back progressives. However, popular campaigns in Michigan to get Democratic primary voters to vote ‘uncommitted‘ suggest the outreach has failed.
