The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) is moving to investigate members of its ranks who booed New York Attorney General Letitia James during a promotion ceremony last week over her lawfare campaign against former President Donald Trump. A memo issued to firehouses across New York City on Sunday stated that the FDNY’s Bureau of Investigations and Trials (BITS) is analyzing video of the event to identify which firefighters heckled James, adding they brought “discredit” on the department.
Deputy fire chiefs, according to the memo, have been directed to visit each fire company to discuss the vocal protest against Attorney General James and to offer department members a chance to come forward before BITS proceeds with their investigation. “Absolutely no one should have been subjected to what happened based on the political beliefs of some members. This was not a political event and Letitia James was not there to give a political speech,” the memo reads. It continues: “Members have a right to political beliefs. But you don’t have a right to make a job related ceremony political in nature.”
According to the memo, those who come forward will be sent to “…HQ to be educated [as to] why their behavior is unacceptable.” The Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) advised that members who believe they’re a subject of the BITS investigation should notify the organization and “immediately request representation.”
Late last week, James was shouted down by a group of firefighters who repetitively chanted “Trump” while she spoke at the promotions ceremony. The New York Attorney General has been the target of public protests by truckers and first responders over her prosecution of former President Donald Trump for alleged civil fraud. James secured a $355 million judgment against Trump in late February.
I was made aware by some FDNY members that after FDNY members booed Attorney General Letitia James that an investigation has opened up and FDNY bosses are now visiting different firehouses asking people to come Forward.
